I know there are a lot of active members in NoVA but very little seems to happen there anymore. Especially since Peter left. I'd like to see Jeff bring back some of that activity.

I agree with Skip. Community activities only exist where active members are present. I know there are a ton of us in the greater Fairfax area but not much seems to go on out there. Brian has an active bunch up his way and the SoVA guys seem to be pretty busy of late but not much has happened in the middle (besides Jeff's Happy Hours).

For what it is worth, I'd REALLY like to see Jeff as a CO and bring some of that activity back to Fairfax County. That way, I won't have to drive so far...

Ill lock this thread then, and let the VA members handle this, we will see where that gets us. Im only looking out for the community here, I know where Bill lives and where he should be policing. Im not gonna go this alone, so you guys go ahead and get the interest back down there
Um.... ok?

Mid-A for the last few years was classified as md.. dc metro.. and hampton roads.

For people living in the DC Metro area.. aka.. Montgomery County, Northern VA, DC.. that's one area. I'm sure bighead is in the Rickville area, which would make him the one responsible for getting people together in the DC Metro area.

O-turn already has the upper maryland meets up there.

BeanVa already has Hampton roads.

Skip had the area between Fredricksburg to Richmond so it would seem that that area would need the CO, no?

If this isn't correct, please enlighten us.

all, been off for the past 2 days ( alot of use-or-lose leave before 1 Jan 08 )

Firstly, thank you Brian and Jeff for your vote in confidence There are quite a lot of members in the NOVA area an I would like to see more activity other than the Happy Hours with winter here for the next few months it limits the types of activities that can be done.

I do agree with Skip that without a presence in the Mid-VA region activity there will never be rekindled, that shouldn't stop people from living in the area from organizing local meets however.

If the decision stands and the current COs elect to have another CO represent the NOVA area i would gladly accept the nomination.

Other than that....

Im well aware of the areas, however things change. You have not been here for awhile and the area has changed, not much is happening in the NOVA area just like nothing happened in B-more when you were CO of B-more. I tried to help out by organizing things here then. Bill is a busy person and I spoke to him before posting this thread and he is on board with this.

The Richmond area has dwindled to a standstill, its up to the members to bring it back as we did here in Baltimore when it came to a hault. When the area is on its feet, someone can move south and manage the members, but why put someone in charge of noone? Id rather the populated area have someone to keep its interest. Jeff is still close enough to the burg that their members can travel 20-30 mins to a meet IMO.

The Mid-Atlantic Community always has and always will be divided into three sections - Maryland, Northern Virginia / DC Metro, and Southern Virginia. If you are unaware of this, you really need to pay attention to the general layout that was given many years before each of the existing organizers even joined the forums : click here for details.

For 2006 the very active Community Organizers for the Mid-Atlantic Region were Peter (4theheckof_it) for Maryland, Tom (nandska) in Northern Virginia / DC Metro, and myself in Southern Virginia.

Due to his very hectic work schedule and personal life, Tom decided that it would be best to step down. Instead of replacing him, we decided that Peter and I could handle things solo. In my opinion, we did a very good job. Peter organized several very large monthly meets, including his infamous Wash & Wax Meets. I did the same, through my Hampton Roads Dinner Meets which had an average attendance over 15 members.

Once Peter was stationed out of the country I had to make a decision. He asked me simply to hire a temporary replacement for his section, however due to a simple misunderstanding the Mid-Atlantic Community was in search of a new group of Community Organizers.

Upon several nominations, we decided that Brian (O-Turn) would lead our Maryland area, Bill (bighead) would lead our Northern Virginia / DC Metro area, and I would personally lead our Southern Virginia Area.

The Community did have quite a gap, however between the Williamsburg to Fredricksburg area there is very little active members for the S2Ki Community. The decision to ask Skip to return as a Community Organizer was done by a few of the tenured community members. This was not only to fill in the gap between the burg to burg region, however also for a few other regions.

If you look at the existing community organizers, including myself you will notice that most of us are in our Mid-20's. While the community is getting younger, there are still several older members who would like to be active. Skip is a very mature person with a great deal on morals, his personality would truly attract not only the older yet also the younger audience. As well, over the past couple of years our more tenured Mid-Atlantic Veterans have fallen off. The idea was to have Skip return, hopefully gathering more interest from our 5+ Star members and have them become active again.

Skip's position in the Fredricksburg area was much more than simply organizing events... Skip had a lot more on his plate than anyone in that particular region can handle.

Do I think that even with a nomination thread that Skip can be replaced... no way.

Jeff, I agree that there are many owners in the NoVA area, however, since I can't get to drinking meets, I don't see many of them being "active." That doesn't mean they're not, just that I don't see them. I know the bowling thing was just one event, but I think only Ross was from the NoVA area. Everyone else was from MD, Richmond-area, or in your case, WV.

This time of year makes it difficult for some, so the CBP III may not be a usuable example. I do believe that since many of the "core" folks from the NoVA region(spreads to SoMD) see each other at mini-meets, autox's, and track days, the impetus to hold bigger, more attention-getting meets is reduced... significantly. The migration of members to the "off-the-public-roads" events has changed things from years past. I'm probably the single biggest adapter of this trend- from once tearing up the streets to frowning on it; from looking forward to large driving meets to preferring less than ten cars for such driving get-togethers. Call it growing up, loss of "newness," or whatever, consciously or not, street driving meets have been greatly scaled back.

Alas, we come to the "chicken or the egg" dilema. Do we populate an area of already known owners or do we try to revive a forgotten region?
