Need a Mechanic Recommendation
My 2001 S2K needs some serious TLC; maybe an engine overhaul, and I'm new to the area. Can anyone recommend a top-shelf Honda mechanic? It can be a dealership or a qualified independent mechanic. I need a great diagnostician.
Thanks for any advice or tips.

[left]If you are located in Hampton roads area then I highly recommend Cory. He has been working on my car for the past 8 years and I trust no one else to perform big jobs on my vehicle except for Cory. He usually works on everyone s2000 in the area.

I have the same question, except I am in Northern Virginia. I also have a 01 S2K that needs a tune up. Any recommendation would be great. I looked up Hampton Roads, isn't that close to VA Beach?

RRT automotive in sterling. Ask for Artin. He is a s2000 Specialist. They charge a bit more than the average shop but definitely less than dealer. They know their stuff. Only work on high end cars + s2000

Apparently Artin has left RRT and started his own new shop but that is NC anyway.
As has been said above, for specific Honda mechanical stuff there is literally nobody better than Daisy Import Auto Care in Woodbine, MD. Make an appointment, although the place is constantly full so perhaps just schedule it, take your car there when he has room to put it in the shop and get a ride home. It won't be fast but whatever you get done will be done perfectly, the first time, for a more than fair price. Ben, Cliff and the gang have done a full OEM swap back from turbo nightmare to OEM (ton of creative labor), did a "rotating parts" rebuild on my track car motor, swapped rear end, all brakes, wheels and tires, alignment expert, I could go on and on. You will be super happy once it is done. Ben sometimes lacks "bedside manner" and is usually pretty stressed out with his huge international NSX business but it's the right place for mechanical repairs and upgrades.

All experiences being what what they are I could not disagree more with this assessment. Barring the time for service, which for me was not terrible, the total experience was horendous. Brought my touge monster in to ben for an oil change, coil over install, alignment, and half shaft spacer install. Been to all the shops in the dmv and was bringing my car to him from Alexandria after glowing reviews on this forum. Dropped the car off and met ben after numerous phone conversations. Asked about replacing all oem hardware with new and he assured me he could with the ‘that’s my job’ approach. Two days in I received a call saying he could not install the half shaft spacers due to ‘binding’ odd but ok. Told the car was ready to go a few days later and made my journey to woodbine. Homie dropped me off and I saw my baby in the lot. Did a once over and noticed the rear was had a visible amount of negative toe (tires pointing front side out) which seemed odd to me for an s2k but trusted ben. Walked into the garage to have a chat and ask for the keys for a test drive. Took the car out and boy oh boy was it sketchy to say the least. If anyone knows these cars they know they’re a joy to toss into corners, whereas my rear end was scary. Snap oversteer everywhere at minor steering angle and mild throttle. Before anyone comments it was summer and my ado8s were plenty warm. Bring the car back to the shop ask for either Ben or Cliff, who aligned my car come to find out, to take my car for a test drive. I expressed to Ben my visual observation of aggressive rear negative toe and the fact that the car felt unstable. Neither ben nor Cliff who were both in the shop believed what I was saying, ben going so far as to say I was wrong and didn’t know what I was talking about. Somewhere in the background emerges Carl, my savior, who has heard this whole exchange and has an nsx of his own offer to take the car for a spin. Within a couple corners, which are abundant around the shop, Carl sense a problem and bee lines back to the shop. He parks the car, we both get out and walk back into the shop. At this point ben is elbows deep in an nsx engine bay and clearly everything isn’t going smoothly. Carl starts and says my car’s not right and confirms the visible negative toe in the rear adding that the car was super twitchy. Ben didn’t seem too bother and after we both persisted ben’s respond was ‘alright, **** it. Let’s go see how wrong you both are’. Within seconds of ben looking at the car his demeanor changed and offer up a ‘yeah... that’s not right’ as some kind of sheepish apology for the pervasive belittling of not only me but a tech under his employment. Come to find out Cliff found random alignment specs online (wtf) and set the car up with almost -2.0 degrees positive toe. It’s a wonder I didn’t wreck on the test drive. After almost 5 hours Carl had set my car up properly and even went out with me to dial in my coil overs. If you have an nsx maybe ben cares, but I would never bring my s2000 to him ever again. If you wan a real pro who has made my touge machine wicked fast talk to Artin at Gt peace automotive 4003 Westfax Dr G, Chantilly, VA 20151. Artin is a magician with our cars and treats them how they deserve to be treated. Brought my spacers that ben couldn’t install due to ‘binding’ to Artin who installed them without issue. As well as finding installation issues with my coils, which he remedies without a problem. I’ll never take my touge machine to anyone else again.

Artin has left RRT and now works at GTPeace in Chantilly, VA. I have been taking my track prepped S2K to him for years with the best results I could ask for. I highly recommend Artin.
