Hey welcome to the area, being a transplanted NY'er I know what you're going through. I moved down here when I was 25 (back in '98).
I'm with Geico and am staying with them. They are so hassle-free they're worth the extra money (if they are indeed more expensive).
When I had only my '98 Subaru outback sport, I was paying about 1200 for the year (a little more than that when it was brand new about 1600 I think).
Now I have both the Subaru and the '00 s2000. I pay less because of the two car discount (it's just me on the policy). I pay 1100 every 6 months, so 2200-ish yearly.

Erie is good.. Geico is good... Liberty mutual can be good (its hit or miss).. Progressive is OK (I say ok because they are hit or miss but most the time more expensive).. You might also wanna try Nationwide..
So to recap:
Erie
Geico
Liberty Mutual
Progressive
Nationwide
These are the people I would call and get quotes from..

When you add up your car payments, insurance, maintenance, gas and other expenses, you're looking at paying over $1.00 per mile to lease/own and drive a sports car. Maybe you should be asking yourself whether it's really worth it?

Just to give you and Idea.. Im 21 HORRIBLE driving record.. I am currently with MAIF (Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund) I wouldnt recommend them to ANYONE, but they were the only company that would cover me for any thing less than 7000... Every 6 month... ...
SO... The last thing I can suggest to you is give this lady a call..
Emily Kendall ... Tell here Johnathan Barnwell told you to give here a call.. Tell her your situation and see what see can come up with.. 410.531.2057
