[Insert "This thread is useless without pics" smiley here]

That's right, I finally broke down and did it. I closed & moved into my first garage (with home attached ). Still located in New Town in Owings Mills (about 1 mile from where I lived before).

Short specs on the place :
6 months old - Garage w/ Extra-wide (26' ?) Townhome on a cul-de-sac with front and rear facing tree preserves (watch deer!)
Trex Deck and fenced in yard
3 BR, 2.5 BA, Walkout Lower Level
Rough-in for another 1/2 bath
Rough-in for another bedroom the size of the master bedroom (currently a storage room though)

Pretty neat so far, except bad luck definitely happens in threes (or more )...

Saturday) Good Luck! My parents aren't coming down from NY until Sunday
Sunday) Bad Luck! My parents arrive.
Monday) Bad Luck! I drop my '98 OBS w/ 64K off to the Subaru dealer for an oil change and "rubbing noise" in the rear while I go shopping for furniture. Oil change reveals the gasket is leaking oil heavily (never saw any oil on the ground) and the "rubbing noise" is caused by the clutch pack for the AWD in the rear being bind up. Approx cost of the two $1700
Tuesday) 11am Closed on the house.
Bad Luck!
My parents bought me an expensive vacuum cleaner. I broke it within an hour. Luckily, it was only a couple of days old and it will be going back.
Good Luck! The 'Roo is covered under my extended warranty. Total cost to me about $100.
Wednesday) Good Luck! Movers were very quick and efficient. Nothing broken. Move time = only 2.5 hours.
Bad Luck! The people who lived there before me put the air filter in the wrong way. Turn on the heat (for the first time) and poof. Air filter gets sucked into the motor and burns out motor. Cost $120

At least "Duchess" (the S) will sleep soundly in the garage... and it rained last night too!

Pictures will be up when I hookup my 'puters at home.

Congratulations! Welcome to the wonderful world of homeownership, where something ALWAYS needs fixing...and there's no landlord to complain to!
But really, it's great...and wait until tax time. That mortgage interest deduction is sweet!

There are only a few moments in life better than purchasing your first property!

Congrats! I enjoyed the five homes I owned and renovated over the years. I'm sure you will, too!! Maintenance can be a pain sometimes, but it's worth it...

Make sure you walk around the property and mark your territory properly (show the neighborhood dogs who is boss).

Now get out there and mow the lawn or shovel the snow from your drive way

Don't think of home ownership as "added maintenance" think of it as an opportunity to acquire lots of new power tools (power garage door opener, snow blower, lawnmower, shop vac, etc.)

I just got the garage door opener installed this week, the last owner (of 5 months ) left me his crappy gas mower so I'll probably buy an electric come spring, and as for snowblower... I have a shovel from Home Depot
