Default Local source for torque wrench repair?

So I busted the drive end off my torque wrench trying to get the axle nuts loose after everything else has failed. Anyone know of a local place (MD/DC/VA/DE) where I can get it repaired?

You know you are only supposed to tighten bolts with a torque wrench, not loosen right? That said you are probably better off just buying a new one from Harbor freight or something vs trying to get one repaired, unless its was a super expensive one.

Breaker Bar FTW.

I'd scrap the wrench and just buy a new one unless it is an expensive one.

I broke a 1/2" breaker bar the last time I tried to remove the axle nuts. This time, along with the torque wrench I also broke a 3/4"-to-1/2" adapter using a 3/4" breaker bar and a 1/2" socket.

Use a bigger breaker bar and correct size. I never trust adapters, i've broken a few in my day.

If that does not work then get nasty and use a 1000 ft/lb impact.

Where would I find one of those? Sears, Home Depot and Lowes didn't have anything with that much force. And how much CFM would you need to run one of those?

Odd, I've never had any trouble getting my axle nuts off with a 1/2" breaker bar, and a bit of body weight (And I don't have too much body weight to throw around either).

Ingersoll Rand makes one. The 2135Ti, I highly recommend it from personal experience.

Specs:

Drive: 1/2″
Avg. Air Consumption: 5 CFM
CFM at Load: 24
Speed – No Load(RPM): 9500 BPM (Blows per minute)
Max Torque ft/lbs: 1000
Working Torque ft/lbs: forward – 625, reverse 700
Inlet size: 1/4″
Min.Hose Size: 3/8″
Std. Bolt Capacity 9/16″
Length: 7.34″
Weight: 3.95 lbs

Bit expensive yes. Little trick, add any compressor and the 2135ti to the shopping cart on sears website and it'll take 25% off. Then delete the compressor if you already have one and the 25% should stick, then do local pickup. Currently $194 and a bit for it w/ 25% off.

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00919288000P (shows $260 without the 25% off)

Hope this helps Warren. If you need any help local let me know. I'm in Owings Mills myself, I actually have axle nuts I have sitting here I need to put on as I didn't have the patience immediately after doing my clutch change.

I've had that much trouble. But it was because we forgot to unstake them.

Thanks but the only time I'd use an air impact wrench of that size would be for the axle nuts and I don't undo the nuts very often so $194 would be a bit steep for only occasional uses. And with my air compressor maxing out at 8.1 CFM, I'd have to get another compressor just to run that thing.
