Local Driving and Racing schools
Hey everyone,
I'm trying to attend some racing schools this year. I'm not sure where any are located in my area, or which ones are worth the money. I'm researching Skip Barber right now, not sure where it's held at either. I live in Southern MD where there are no local circuits around. If anyone has attended any or can think of a good course to attend please let me know. Thanks
Ryan B> Hopes to see you on the track soon!!!

I did the Skip Barber combo school in January @ Daytona. Combo school is morning autocross and afternoon in the Formula Dodge open wheel cars. For the $$ ($1300) I think I got almost as much from 2 FATT days @ Summit Point & reading a couple books on racing and autox. Depending what you want to experience, there are several autox schools coming up, SCCA being 1 in March, and the new FATT schedule at summit point is up now. If you do Skip Barber, do one of the schools where the entire day is dedicated to one type of driving, not the combo school, IMO.

Here's a good place to start....

Like ElTianti said, can't be a FATT as long as you don't mind (1) registering months in advance and (2) playing hookie from work on a Friday.
Summit Point is by far the closest track, but there are a few others that aren't millions of miles away if you're doing a weekend school....VIR (Danville, VA), BeaveRun (near Pittsburgh), Lime Rock (CT).
I'm not going to go into the merits of one school or program over the others right now (ask if you have questions), but there are some philosophical differences between them.

I did a FATT at Summitt Point last August. It was outstanding. The weather was incredible for August too (clear, no wind, 80 degrees). I was very tired at the end of the day, so I wouldn't recommend a long drive home that night!
