Yeah, if it's gouged, that's a whole 'nother story... still, if the CF weave is intact and hasn't shifted, clearcoat can still be laid down and it will look good as new.

Scratch that you can feel/catch your fingernail on can't be POLISHED out completely, just like in clearcoat. It can be sanded and then polished, depending on how deep it is, but you will compromise the UV protection of the clearcoat in most cases and if you're not careful, you can sand THROUGH the clear into the color/base coat (or CF in this instance).

Then again, I've never worked with clearing CF...

Well what every shop is telling me is that CF doesn't use clearcoat. They use a special gel coating on the CF which cannot be repaired unless sanded down and added paint and clearcoat like a stock hood.

Thanks W1ngman, I only wanted the insurance people to charge me for a stock hood only to get more money out of it if only they dont replace it with a aftermarket. Because a friend of mines cracked his aftermarket bumber and the insurance gave him a check for a stock bumper which cost around 200 more, so my friend got a new aftermarket bumper with a extra 200 to buy extras.

Sure thing, and I understand completely on the insurance thing. Just remember, though, its those extra $$$ that insurance pays...that the company just luvs to try to get back out of its customers...eventually. Knowwhuddamean?

billy i'm telling you get a new hood. it'll be the same price if not cheaper than repairing your current one, and less hassle/worrying about if they'll do a good job.
