I got two letters from North Carolina today...
#2
One for me thus far... Mine's from a Gaskins & Gaskins.
Perhaps I'm bein' a bit naive regarding my rights to privacy, but I'd have to reckon that my citation is now a matter of public record with that county's Clerk's office. Much in the same way newspapers report folks that are arrested for this and that... I can't keep that out of public record. IMO, these law firms are just another cog in the greased pinnings of the lucrative traffic violations machine. Since they've gone and taken the time to send me a form letter, I'll presume them to be at least a step above ambulance chasers.
BTW, since I've been a-hollarin' to folks to not speak about the specifics of our experience with the pooolice of NC, I'll quickly and pre-emptively defend myself to those that would consider me a hypocrite and say that the following is in and of itself its own topic of interest. And as described within this post, I make no discussion directly or indirectly related to the incidents of the 22nd.
Anyway, here is their mailed advertisement:
Re: Speeding charge in Martin County
Dear Mr Parker:
THIS IS AN ADVERTISEMENT FOR LEGAL SERVICES.
The records in the Clerk's office indicate that you have been charged with speeding in this county. If you have not already employed an attorney, our firm will be pleased to assist you.
Even though you have a drivers license in another state, you should be aware that North Carolina may notify your Department of Motor Vehicles of any conviction here. Under no circumstances should you ignore the citation. If you need representation, we can represent you without you having to be present in court.
In many cases, we are able to secure a disposition which will keep the matter from being reported to your state. In other cases, we can reduce the charge and save a driver's license and insurance costs.
We have been practicing law since 1975. There is no subsitute for 25 years experience. We make sure that our clients are treated fairly and receive every consideration that the law allows. There is no charge for a telephone conference with our office to discuss your case. You may call us toll-free nationwide at 1-800-553-6956.
Well anyway, for what its worth...that was the letter I received...

WOW - I've never been solicited like that after I've gotten a ticket. Maybe you guys made the front page down there - "Anti-Speeding Task Force Captures 4 Yankee Ferraris"
Mr. Wingman said it right - they are definitely part of the cog down there......For those involved, I would suggest a unified response.

Without discussing details of the case, here's a few tidbits:
If you're going to fight the Man, it's 185 miles from Glen Allen (Richmond) to Williamston, NC going mostly down I-95.
If I choose to pay the fine, my insurance will go up a total of $104 / year for 3 years.
I haven't heard from Rick yet. It sure would be nice if we had a private forum where we could discuss this (strategies, who's going & who's not, etc.)
