When I had my last s we lived in phoenix and we could run the tracks with the top down and a helmet on. I have been told that the mid a tracks require a roll cage and/or hard top...is this true? If so why the difference between east and west?
I want to go to the track but don't want to lose my sleeper look or have another top to store. The jeep top is enough of a hassle.

Yes, all tracks in our area(Summit Point, VIR, NJMP etc) require a roll bar in our cars. Hardtop doesn't count. If you have an external roll-bar, you can track your car.

The difference is mostly safety related, where west coast tracks tend to have a lot more runoff room compared to east coast tracks. It is also partly cultural where west coast tracks and event directors seem to be a little lenient on the safety compared to here. I'm pretty sure west coast will catch up soon on the rules.

Cusco and Safety21 aren't going to get you on a track in the Mid-A either. Harddog is your best bet.

The flaming blue of Cusco probably would raise a flag, but Safety21's black paint doesn't. There have been several of us who have used the latter at VIR. That said, I would recommend a HardDog bar from Tom based on overall safety construction. Even still, unless you remove the softtop, concessions are made by the above mentioned bars to accomodate the car's interior.

I agree with Skip. The BSR guys that run Summit Point just want to see an aftermarket roll bar on the car, they're not looking for any particular brand or build type. Any roll bar will do but the Hard Dog is an actual roll bar and will offer some protection in a roll over.

The HD bar does not require cutting a hole in the floorpan. It does require cutting a rectangular opening in the wheelwell.
