Default Fuel filler pipe

CEL 1456 came on this past Friday, and one of the potential causes is a faulty fuel filler neck. There was a TSB issued on this for 02-03 cars (like mine). Has anyone had this replaced under warranty? Can anyone recommend a dealer with a tech that is familiar with the EVAP?

I know that a loose gas cap may also cause this CEL, and I am going to buy a new cap and wait a few days to see if the light goes off. I just want to be prepared in case the new cap does not fix the problem.

I'd just retighten first, wait a couple of cycles, and then take any other necessary action. Never heard of a TSB for that.

The TSB is #04-002 and it covers all 2002 models and some from 2003.

I bought a new gas cap today ($30 from Landmark - rediculous) and hope that will solve the problem.

Also, I did not realize that it would take a few days of me not opening the gas cap to reset the CEL (if the cap was indeed the problem). I have been retightening it daily to get the damn thing to go off.

If there is a TSB for it, why do you have to cover the cost of the cap?

I thought you had to disconnect the battery and wait a few minutes and then hook it back up to reset the CEL (or have the dealer reset similar to Control/Alt/delete). I didn't realize that the CEL would reset (light goes out) if the problem was fixed....

In the case of the fuel filler cap, it does. I had it happen to me one time. It took about 4-5 cycles before it went out on its own.

I just had this happen recently. Had to drive about 50-70 miles for the CEL to go back off after the re-tightening.
