FORZA Motorsports: GET IT if you have Xbox
#22
Hehe a lot of speculation about what Forza from those that haven't played it
I actually don't own an XBox, but I had my buddy's for a while and got my hands on the demo of Forza. (I do own a PS2 and GT4 and have always been a huge GT fan).
My impressions after playing both (at least GT4 vs. the Demo):
-Graphically I don't agree that Forza is inferior to GT. I think that it is graphically *different*. I do feel that the Forza graphics are a little washed out. However Forza makes up for that with the ability to customize the look of the car (paint/graphics) ala "Need for Speed Underground"
-The physics model DOES feel different in Forza. I haven't spent enough time to determine if it is better or worse, but the game was more difficult for me to play from the offset (which leads me to think it might be slightly more realistic).
-CAR DAMAGE. You can't just do the old bump N turn tricks from GT4 anymore. Your car gets damaged and it affects its performance in Forza. This is a huge bonus for me.
-I feel the controls for Forza are superior. It takes some getting used to, but I love the control set up that has each trigger on the controller for gas/brake. My reason behind this is because of the range of motion in the analog XBOX triggers, you get a much greater ability to vary the amount of brake and throttle. I know the PS2 controller buttons are technically analog as well, but lets face it its awfully hard to push those buttons "part of the way down" so you pretty much only get full on, half on or full off.
-I really like the ability to tune the car with real world body parts as well, companies like Mugen, CWest, Ings, all seem to be represented. Lets face it, my R34 GTR may be fully tuned in GT4 have a kick ass suspension and be making 1000+ hp with all of the race preparations, but it still unfortunately looks like a street car in GT4. In Forza I can make it look like a race car, aero, graphics, paint, etc...
-I love the engine swap feature in Forza, I can put a B18 in my EG hatch and rock and roll
-The engine sounds are top notch in Forza and superior to GT4 IMHO.
-The inclusion of italian exotics (Ferrari's notably, I dont remember if Lambo is represented) is a big bonus for me.
I love both games, but Forza is definitely making me go and pick up an XBox. I'm sure I'll always play both, but the improved control, customizability (aero wise), car damage, and native network play make me lean toward Forza personally.
Just a lil 411
When I get my Xbox and Forza I'll post up my name so you guys with Forza can *cough* try *cough* to turn a lap or two faster than me

the graphics in the actual game are much better then the Leguna Seca circuit showed on the demo.
I'm ranked 24th in lap attack at Road America. Not bad considering there are thousands of users ranked I plan on breaking into the top 10 soon.
You can adjust the controller setup to mimick that of GT4 is you prefer also. However, I've become accustom to using the analog triggers for gas/brake.

Chris

I picked up Forza and played it a little this weekend (time has been a PITA on video game time lately ).
I think this game is hard - especially when you turn off the stability controls and other helpful things. I only got to do maybe 4 races in career mode and a couple in arcade. It definitely seems more realistic than GT4 which is probably why it has a tougher learning curve.
I do like the tuning aspect - just because you can your car up if you don't know what you're doing. If you don't know what you're doing, don't mess with it and just leave things at the "installed" settings.
I'd have to agree with 1AP12NV 100% - with the exception of taking someone online , and the fact that I already own a XBOX.
