Nice vids. Next time, tell him to keep the camera inside the car, will you?

The tallest waterfall east of the Mississippi is Crabtree Falls. It's about 13 miles down Route 56 near Steele's Tavern, VA. The fast way to get down there is to just take Route 81 to Exit 205 and then take 11 North about half a mile before turning R on 56. However, if you want the 6 hour version, you can take Blue Ridge Parkway all the way from Front Royal down to 56, and then drive 56 for about 8 miles to the falls.
The reason I mention it is that 56 between 11 and the falls is probably the most fun road I've ever been on. It's a 55mph speed limit for most of it, and it's hard to even get above 40 in most places due to the curves!

Ahhh.... The hill climb from the east side to Skyline via US 211. Been one of my favorite roads for several years.
Nice vids. Next time, tell him to keep the camera inside the car, will you?

Like the Dragon vids, it doesn't give a sense of the sharpness/speed of the turn. My tires were squealing almost through the whole turn...

The east side is far more challenging. Coming up from the west side is almost boring by comparison.
So which route(s) do you take when you go down to 211?
I and my friend usually take I66 to exit 27 (or something like that). Cross the overpass and take a right turn on to a VA 2-lane road. That will take us to 522. We turn left at 522 and about a block later we turn right on another 2-lane road. That leads us right to Washington, VA (where the courthouse would be if you get a ticket). From there, right to 211. About 2 to 3 miles out from that redish barn-looking shop/restaurant. That's usually we stop for lunch and then some runs up the 211 and Skyline itself. Not to mention photo ops.
The barn-looking shop/restaurant: Full Size
The other side of the parking lot: Full Size
On Skyline Drive: Full Size
My friend's WRX: Full Size

Lots of good ideas here. The roads south of Charlottesville are great. Done some Mid-A meets down there, around Nellysford and Wintergreen. Up into the Blue Ridge. Fun driving and lovely area. As a matter of fact, I just arranged next year's Spring Fling at Wintergreen. The routes north and west of DC that George (gfacter) has mapped out (and we've driven a few times for Mid-A meets) are also great.
Sometimes, for a day trip, I just drive out toward Middleburg and beyond to tool around and have lunch at the Coach Stop. Fun...Snickersville Turnpike is a fave road out that way. Just ride around and explore.
