Default Favorite Blue Ridge roads

So next week the +1 and I are driving from PA down to south western VA, to the Claytor Lake area. We are not in a hurry, and would like to see some scenery, interesting twisty roads, and good places to visit. I think we will generally head south parallel to I81 but on the east side of the Blue Ridge. Can anyone suggest some roads fit for an S2000 or conversely, routes to avoid ?

I would think you'd want to hit Skyline Drive. It's kind of slow, but supposed to be beautiful. I am thinking about hitting it this weekend myself.

Skip Skyline and get on the Blue Ridge Parkway just east of Staunton. It's well worth the detour, just keep in mind the Park Police are speed Nazis there, they will hassle you for 5 over.

58 is a fantastic road also you could take 58 to 52 and work your way back to the lake. Just bring a map.

Mt Rogers is in that area, if you venture in that direction look for a town called Tazewell and Rt 16 that heads south and cross 81, that road is guaranteed to make you smile.

The roads south of Charlottesville are great...where we did a couple of March Madness meets. I forgot the numbers, but I'm talking about the ones around Nellysford (stop at the Blue Ridge Pig!). Up into the mountains. I think Route 9 is one of them??

I think the BR Pig is on 151 or 6 if you follow 151 from 29S it will intersect with Rt. 6 which runs into interstate 81. Two other reallllllllly great drives (they are very similar to the Dragon) are Rt. 56 and Rt 60 (both of this are extremely curvey and winding, but really good roads) which also takes you over to a connection with I-81 and/or I-64. Reallly fun drives. +1 and I do those routes frequently.

We did about 200 miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway, from Staunton down past Roanoke, last Thursday and Friday. There was very little traffic - practically deserted, and we never saw any police. That was a great suggestion..thanks !

We took Rt 8 from the BRP back across I81 to Radford; and numerous state roads around Claytor Lake. 605 was very memorable and challenging as well.

Got rained out on the morning we were going to run 56 and 60, but will save that for the next time.
