I do understand that you know what you are talking about. However, in real life, and in real situations in court, the burden to prove that it is unsafe to go through a yellow light is pretty easy. If there is ONE car in the intersection waiting for their light to turn green, and a car runs a yellow, that is deemed unsafe. If there is person crossing the street when a car crosses the yellow, it is deemed unsafe. If the light in question is at an intersection with a high accident rate, then it is deemed unsafe. Many things can make running a yellow light unsafe. But the main point of this is that it is the same as running a red.
But I just wanted to point out that it wasn't just a given that running through a yellow is illegal.
I think we're on the same page now.

Actually no. DC has officers standing on the street corners of intersections waiting for cars to be stuck in the middle of a red in the interesection. They will ask the car to pull to the side and give them a ticket.
