EVENT: 2nd Annual WhrDLMI BBQ
Second Annual WhrDLMI BBQ in Delaplane, Virginia
It is that time of year again for GOOD food, GREAT friends, and AWESOME times. I am changing things up a little bit this year by hosting this event at Barrel Oak Winery near Marshal, Virginia. Just off of I-66. Should be easier to find than my little house in the woods. My sister and her husband own the place so I kind of have an "in."
The day will start kind of early at a yet to be disclosed start point for one of gfacter's now infamous drives. We will head from there to cruise along some amazing rural roads in Virginia and West Virginia and then head back to the winery for lunch. The drive will be about two hours and a couple hundred miles.
Once we get back to the winery, lunch is on me. I'll have burgers, hot dogs and grilled chicken sandwiches as well as some good sides. Any vegetarian "burgers" or "dogs" can be prepared upon request. As I did last year, the food will be top notch! Although there will be a lot if it, all of the food will be hand made. I'll have plenty of water and sodas.
Unfortunately, because of some bizarre Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control rules, we will NOT be able to bring in any alcohol from off-site. This means NO beer, NO liquor, and NO wine from other wineries.
This event is is going to be a very informal come as you are deal. If you don't want to do the drive, that is okay. Just plan on being at the winery sometime after 11:00 a.m. Of course, everyone is welcome to come and go as ya please. Winery tours will be given as requested and, of course, Barrel Oak will be open for business should you wish to enjoy their wines.
All are welcome! I am prepared to host a ton of folks! But a small turnout is okay, too!
Here is the thread from last year. It was an amazing success and I am going to do it again.
If by horrible circumstance the weather does not cooperate, I'll have to reschedule it for a date later in the summer. This, though, is just a backup plan in case it is REALLY bad on the 9th. That is to say... This is pretty much a "R@!n or Shine" (pray for Shine) event.
Date: Saturday, August 9th
Time: 11:00 a.m. till whenever...
Directions to the drive start:
That is 85 guests!

Read this... kthxbye...
I had a lot of "What can I bring with me?" questions last year... I tried to be polite and say "Nothing! Seriously!!!" but folks still brought stuff and I ended up with left overs... In fact, I think I still have stuff!
Seriously... This is my way of giving back to the community that really has already given me a lot. I will supply all the food you can eat and I'll have plenty of water and soda on hand.
HOWEVER, IF YOU INSIST...
If your Great Aunt Bessie has an AWESOME dessert recipe... Well... Okay... Twist my arm. I'll have serving utensils for this sort of stuff, too!
If you do want to bring sodas, please bring cans / bottles. NO BIG 2 or 3 liters. They are just a PITA with a large group. Sorry to all the tree huggers...
Bags of chips and some dips are always good. They tend to get eaten in the evenings, too.
There is a Bloom in the town of Marshall that is mere minutes away from the winery if we do run out of stuff, I'll take volunteers to make "goody runs."
