Ok so I currently am engaged as you all know. My Fiance and I have a crummy little town house(we both agree on that not just 1 of us). In order for us to get a "house" and in turn get me a garage I would have to part with the S. This will free up about 600+ a month just in having the car and insurance. This money will be saved until her lease is up or she can actually do something about getting out of it in march. Does this sound reasonable to anyone. Im not looking for answers that are childish in anyway. The house can build equity the car can only depreciate.

can she give up something else as well that will free up cash or is the S your only option?

Currently the S is the only option. She can get out of her lease as early as march of 09. She is wanting to get something with lower payments as well. All of this is still in the works. Another big thing is that she is receiving spousal support from her ex. We will be losing that come the first of the year.

I say anything is reasonable to make you/your family happy and better. Sacrifices in a marriage will always be made and im sure that later on down the road you can get another S. BUT then again it all depends on you and your passion for the S.

The only way I would sacrice the S, is if you are having a kid. 26 years of marriage, three daughters, six grandkids and a long lost TR7. I only got rid of it because they made car seats mandatory.

You would probably lose money on it anyhow.

Well Im not having any kids any time soon thats our plan. I am very passionate about the S. I love the car and the community that follows it. We just want to get a normal house with a real yard and a garage.

I feel for you... My wife and I own a townhouse and are in the process of buying a bigger house also. I'm just thankful my wife would NEVER let me sacrifice the S for the house we're looking at.

Yes, buying a house (especially now) is the smartest possible thing you could do. Giving up something like the S now could reap its rewards in less than 5 years.

That being said, I will NEVER sell my car. No matter what.

I sold mine in the begining of spring for the same reasons (also my daily driver was dying) and though I miss it, going from a 1,600 sq ft townhouse to a 2,300 sq ft house with garage is sure nice.

Just don't make her feel guilty for you having to sell it and realise you may not have a fun car again for quite some time.
