None of us made it to the Mega-Meet save TeamVirtuosity(Steve). Kevin's and my car were not completed at the time.

I have traversed the contiguous 48 states several times myself. You'll want to do a loop per se- go out via the southern route and return via the northern route. This will afford you the greatest chance to see many destinations if only for a day. It also lends itself to having a better chance of warm weather during the northern route.

I would not suggest doing this during the traditional summer months for a couple of reasons. One would be extra traffic. The second would be summer hotel rates are higher. Gasoline prices generally are a bit lower before Memorial Day. And you'll be spending approx. $700 on gasoline in case you were wondering.

The trip is not for the shallow pocketed ones. You must be able to have cash/credit for potential repairs and or blown tires. Since most of the miles will be highway and continuous, you could do the whole trip on one oil change. Some may choose not to. With the amount of highway miles being done, a less aggressive alignment just prior to the trip would be advised.

I have gone over this trip many times with the S2000 in mind. If you have any questions and think i might be of assistance, just ask and I will try to help any way I can. I'd love to make the trip as well, however, i don't see finances allowing me... Kyle starts Phase II of braces next month. And then Stacia is right behind him.

Ten bucks says "maybe" one person will do this....just like the last one that was done earlier this year...
Hey, I know I would have gone, but the car was not done.

And to add, I would suggest that any and all participants be at least 21 yrs of age.

Well, its November 05' right now - I am pretty sure no one wants to do this trip in Winter time. As well, I know there are quite a few Mid-Atlantic Members (myself included) who are determined to make Wake the Dragon 06' in April. That pretty much does limit our time to Late Summer / Early Fall 2006. That gives almost a year for planning.
Honestly though, no one wants to waste time planning a trip that they aren't going to take for a year - especially when they don't even know if they can get the time off for it.

Peter is correct. Steve did it because he was moving out there anyway. Kevin had a baby coming and my car wasn't done(probably won't be done next year either ). Besides, a lot of people is not what you want.

I'd say 3 to 6 max. You'd like it such that everyone has someone to split room expenses with.

how about a VA to CA via Rt 66 run...
I drove a 40 mile portion of Rt 66 just for the historic factor when I was in Vegas to LA in September. Took it from Barstow, CA to Victorville, CA.

I can see why it fell out of favor with people. The speed limit is 55 and I got stuck behind a big rig going 40mph for a good 10 miles. Once I got around that, I come upon someone else going almost as slow. I decided to do it after I stopped in the Route 66 Museum in Barstow.

With I-15 and I-10 close by and speed limits of 75, you could easily go 85-90 so it's easy to see why Rt66 has fallen out of favor with most people. Now the only time you'd take it is for the nostalgia. It was THE road in it's day but it just can't compare to the interstates now.

But damn, driving out west is awesome! There's something about driving through the desert and stopping at little hole in the wall desert towns that has a certain appeal to it.

Actually, the trip should be made in conjunction with the timing of WTD. It's on the way. Like i said, I had already done the route and included certain destinations- the Dragon was one of them.

Barstow... Had a field exercise based out of there. I loved the desert... lived in southwest AZ for 13 years.
