Default Condos/Apts in Tysons or Arlington

Hey all,

I currently live out in Herndon but my lease is up at the end of march. I want to move a little closer to DC. Can anyone suggest some decent places to live in Tysons or Arlington? Better yet, anyone have an extra room in their condo/apt they want to rent out? Would prefer a garage for the S and a private bathroom.

I currently live in Tysons, here are the places I looked at before renting at Fountains at McLean:

Fountains at McLean
Post Tysons Corner
Gates of McLean

They all have assigned spaces in their parking garages but not personal garages.

My GF lives in Arlington, more specifically Ballston. There are tons of condos/apts in Arlington (Ballston, VA Square, Courthouse, Clarendon, etc)

Either way get ready to pay a lot more in rent, as in 1200-1600/mo for a 1 bedroom ~700-900 sq ft

Ballston is at the top of my list for Arlington but it is $$$. If you don't mind me asking.. how much are you paying at Fountains?

No I don't mind. I have a 700 sqft 1 bedroom with a garage spot and I pay $1300. My GF in Ballston has a ~850 sqft 1 bedroom with a garage spot and she pays $1550.

It's steep but I work at Freddie Mac so I have about as short of a commute as one could get (basically across the street)

Thanks! My current roommate also works at Freddie Mac... how is driving between your place and her place? Just wondering how long that usually takes since I go out to Arlington/DC a lot as well.

Is Fountains a condo community? I'm assuming you rent through your landlord?

It's ok, depends on the time. Having the toll rd one light away is super convenient, especially when going to Arlington/DC via 66E. During rush hour it sucks though.

Yes, FAM is a condo community and I rent through an owner... found it on Craigslist.

I've also come to the conclusion that it's worth the (now) 75 cents to be able to bypass the mall areas if I need to get to 495... makes traveling anywhere a breeze (outside rush hour)

If you go to DC a lot.. you may want Arlington over Tysons as the metro is much easier to access. Tyson's pretty much guarantees driving somewhere..

of course, I was in arlington last night and the snow removal there is horrid.

To the OP ... if you haven't already, try checking craigslist. You can usually get a better deal renting privately (i.e., renting a condo from a landlord) as opposed to renting at an apartment building. During the real estate boom of the 2000s, a bunch of new condos were built so the interior appointments are usually better (e.g., granite counters, stainless appliances in kitchen, tiled baths, etc.) than in some of the apartments built before then, which will cost you just as much or more to rent.

I'm pretty familiar w/the Balltson / Clarendon / Rosslyn / Courthouse areas so if you find something in your range and location, feel free to shoot me a PM and I can tell you what I know about it.
