Clutch options...yeah :( I'll be needing one veeeeeeery shortly...

Okay, look folks...title says it all. Throwout bearing is about to...well...throw out!
While I know there is an Exedy GB going on...that's a bit pricey for me right now. I am too busy to really be a good boy and dig/investigate my options. So a big request from me to you: For any folks out there that have replaced their clutch (anything from replacing with another OEM to aftermarket)...I would really appreciate you offering both your experience, as well as what it cost you. Do you like what you got? What all did you have to get? So on and so forth.
Please help a tired fella [who's very shortly gonna find himself stranded on the side of the road] with some good clutch info
BTW, as I know it could matter...I am N/A and plan to stay N/A. However, I *might* see myself adding Rick's 4.56 final gearset down the road. Perhaps that would play into your advice...not sure . That's why I'm asking for your help .
Thanks in advance,
Dave

Dave,
I'd be willing to get you the OEM clutch parts at my price (although I do not know what that price is right now).
If things get tough on the aftermarket side, send me a PM or give me a call 757 490-1111 ext. 6313

well, as you know I have the Throw out bearing prob. I love the exeddy, it was very pricy, but for what its worth its a great and beautiful clutch. But for the money I think there would be better choices.
Some things I think about the exeddy:
: Rattles like crazy!!, very noisy clutch, but in return the actual effort to engage the clutch was bout 1.5 inches of a push, maybe less.
: The fact that if I do have to replace my pressure plate, I dont have a choice other to get a Exeddy pressure plate. Nothing else would fit. The lightend flywheel is only designed to work with the exeddy pressure plate.
:The great grab it gives. Even though Im N/A I feel the help this clutch gives you. You feel the torqe, the clutch grabs so well that when changing gears, in all gears the car wants to break loose.
Now as I work on this tranny over the weekend, I want to see how this clutch lasted for the 6500 miles its been driven.
Now the thing I have been thinking of if I ever to need to replace this set up is.
The Elda Engineering lightend flywheel. 7.5 lbs, Billet aluminum, but the actual friction contact area is a steel friction surface. The use of a lightened flywheel, with a grabby friction surface that could be replaced would be a good idea.
( people go with the toda, but this is a lighter flywheel, and the addition of a replaceable friction surface.)
I havent searched for any other members with this set up yet.
As for a Pressure plate, the spoon or mugen pressure plate is a great addition. higher pressure rating than stock, yet more easy on the street than the exeddy plate.
and as a clutch, I have read that the puck systems were not very good for our cars. And the Exeddy did come with a 6 puck clutch. So maybe a stock clutch, or an ACT clutch would work, yet I have also read horror stories about the ACT clutches.
So in my future: Elda Flywheel, Spoon or Mugen Pressureplate and stock clutch.
In the end it would cost as much as I got the exeddy, I got a deal on it from a site sponsor for a grand. I guess thats what made me get the kit.

I chose to go with the ACT HD clutch and PP. Stock flywheel for now. This was done before I got the Vortech installed.
I can say that this clutch is an excellent balance between street and track. It's actually a reworked OEM disk and PP so it's not TOO agressive, yet it adds a lot more grab and firmer pedal feel. Great for NA or even mild FI. I forget how much power it can hold but it's up there and I never planned on exceeding it's limits even if I were to upgrade pullies..blah blah..
Oh yeah...6K miles and no problems whatsoever.

Dave,
You should talk to James Mullins (Reedz). He has researched all the options very thoroughly and can give you very good advice. He and his friend Chris can also do the installation and save you a bundle. I know -- they did mine.

I'd be very interested on the install-side offer. I'd really enjoy doing the work [supervised of course]. I'm no slouch with a wrench...but every experience requires "a first time" .
Due to continued financial issues, I'm strongly considering purchasing another Honda OEM Clutch, PP, TO Bearing, and Fly through Hardtopguy. He's got HandA beat by roughly $50 on parts and $10 on shipping.
I'll get up with James regarding what options might be considered on installation. Thanks Rick! .
