Congrats Pete. Where are you on the CDC list?
The current CDC Index is completely crappy with zero validity.
There has been a heated discussion about having an car based Index system (cars are handicapped so drivers can compete against each other similar to the SCCA) instead of the crazy CDC Index which makes your index worse if you do well .
The SCCA system has some issues (how it handles mods and r-comps) but I think it is way better then what we have now. i propsed changing to a system that is based on the SCCA stock classes and we can then decide hwo to handle mods and r-comps.
Basically 99.9% of autoX clubs use the SCCA PAX Index system or some variant, ONLY CDC handicaps drivers.

Nice job Pete! I didn't get a chance to say hi, but I was the guy in the Berlina Black S2k.
I agree, the CDC indexing system seems a little strange... I can see how it might serve as positive reinforcement and encourage the newer drivers to keep it up, but as a newbie myself this season, I didn't really understand the purpose of the index.

The index system's confusing , and I don't pay attention to it. I like Pete's idea of three classes (stock, modified and unlimited) with points added for R comps. I don't know if that's what CDC wants to do though. I just enjoy coming out and trying to get the best time that I can. That's always fun.

Basically, the SCCA and every other autoX club (except CDC) uses a Index that handicaps cars based on how fast they are. So, if you drive a super modified, 1000 hp corvette with racing slicks your times are modified a lot. If you show up in a 65hp tricycle you get a great index. This allows you to directly compare the 1000 hp Corvette with the 65 HP tricycle. The contest becomes a contest between drivers NOT cars. In theory, the triccyle driver could beat the Corvette driver because the Corvette is handicapped a LOT.
CDC does not take into account the type of car at all. They merely look at how well you did at the last couple of events. THEY INDEX DRIVERS NOT CARS. So basically, the faster/better I do (and the more consistent I am) the worse my index becomes. This does favor novice drivers INITIALLY as someone who really sucks at event 1 and then sucks a little less at event 2 will do well. At some point however, that novice driver will get stuck in midpack with the CDC index.
Here is the basic way to think about it. We all show up in stock S2000. The fastest driver will win right? Not with CDC, since I am usually pretty fast, I have a terrible index so despite the fact that I got FTD at the last event, my CDC index score places me in 17th place behind a bunch of slower S2000 drivers (most of whom have more mods than me). Make any sense? Not to me.
Also, using the CDC Index, how can you compare your times with times of say someone driving a 120hp Miata? The short answer is that you can't. You really can only compare your raw times with drivers who are driving the exact same type of car with the exact same type of mods.
The SCCA type PAX Index allows you to directly compare your Index times with all other cars.
