Thanks for all the posts. Your right the damage could have been a lot worse. Had the guardrail not been there I would have taken a plunge over the edge of a nice drop. The damage is a little more than just the bumper. It did damage to the headlight housing so my headlight illuminates up the far right side of the road about 10ft too high. I hope they can salvage it, but there is a very large scuff across the top. Also there is damage to the fender where they will have to paint & hopefully bend back into shape. I can imagine that would be a very clostly piece of metal to replace.

Thanks for the info Skip. I have already put a claim in to my insurance. Should I mention this link to them? I would imagine D&V or nationwide have some sort of discount shop they get parts from? I of course will be asking for all OEM replacement parts.

I wish there was a way to recreate the situation where I could see if there was anything I could have done differently. Too bad there isn't some sort of "ice driving" school around here.
Thanks everyone,
-j

Just to add one more piece to the story. I just got back from taking the car in for an estimate. The damage is just over $1400. The guy at Nationwide informed me that if I want new OEM parts I would have to pay the extra $$. So what am I paying $1200/yr for??
Well I took the S over to Kevin @ D&V Auto Body and he is just the man! Reassured me that he will talk to the adjuster and get me all new parts (I believe he said something like 'I'll work him over'). He has made this process so much easier. I have had work done at D&V before and I was very satisfied. I'm just glad there is a great body shop in the area that really cares about it's customers and the end result.
Okay I'm done highjacking my own thread.
