So, how'd the install go? Well, for those that already know, I've been chompin' at the bit for this thing to arrive . Yes...for two nights in a row, I jacked up The Bruised Banana in anticipation of the UPS driver's arrival . And yup, that fan is there to cool the exhaust...I wanted to be prepared!
By 7pm I thought UPS would leave me high-n-dry again ...but at 7:05pm my lil gift from Evolution had arrived
Time to remove that OEM bugger !!! The stock hangers (stock exhaust in general) is an absolute MOFO to pull off. WD-40 helped...but honestly, I tried 4 various "attack angles" to get the OEM exhaust hangers free of the bushings. What ended up working best was driving a flat-head screwdriver from the back-to-front through hanger hole and then levering the flat face of the screwdriver through the hanger hole against the tip of the stock hanger itself. Pry away and "slip-o-la"...one bracket free. Just five more! Yup...if you don't know already, each rear muffler has 2 brackets (for total of 4 at the rear) and then there is one more half-way up the exhaust pipe towards the catalytic converter.
Used my jack to assist me with the weight of the OEM exhaust while I released it from its hangers and the catalytic converter.
I hung the Invidia "rear piece" first. Great fitment. Was not necessary to adjust the hangers (although in the deepest portion of the bumper/diffuser area, there is a slight rub...and therefore some melty-stink ). Once the rear piece was hung, I installed the pipe to the catalytic converter, and then its other end to the rear piece. Viola!!!
Lowered the car off the jack stands. Caution here!!! I had more clearance when I raised the car with its OEM exhaust...enough to slip my floor jack under the rear diff and jack it up. But when I lowered the car with the Invidia installed ...the Invidia's pipes (at the split "Y") were "in the way". Damned near bent/dented the pipes underneath from the weight of the car coming down onto the floor jack . Jacked it back up real quickly and slid the OEM jack stand under the rear-left jack point and then released the floor jack again. Then lowered the OEM jack and put it back in the trunk. Fired up The Bruised Banana up to test for leaks. No leaks
Then...3-bars later ...I jetted out and hit some high WOTs with Mikey (VA S2K) who hung out with me to help pass the wrenches and keep my Invidia from scratchin' up during the install effort
Whew!!!...there's some stinky sh!t that's gotta "burn" out of them new pipes!
