John, I'm not 100% positive, but I don't think our system is adjustable. When braking, weight is transferred to the front of the vehicle, thereby making the rear of the car lighter. When this happens, you have more downforce on the front of the car and less on the rear. Downforce helps the car brake harder. With less downforce in the rear, the wheels would lock up prematurely. You do not want the rear to do that.

This is an area where a wing is of great benefit- braking. Think about it. You've set the angle of attack(AOA) on your wing. You're zipping along and now find yourself in the braking zone. Hard on the brakes... nose dips a little and the rear lifts a little. Speed is decreasing and as such, negative lift in the rear is reduced... BUT as the car's rear is now slightly higher than the front, the effective AOA has changed to be more aggressive.

Long story short, stagger your pads for the track.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Of course the fluid gets replaced before every track event. My tires are good and I can't afford spare wheels and R compounds.right now. Maybe I can contribute towards NERD Racing's inventory for rentals, so they could include AP2 wheels ;~)
Not there yet, Lou. I can tell you that AP2's can run AP1 wheels on the track. As a matter of fact, I believe Jeff(WhrDLMI) ran such a setup last year. right now, however, I only have one set of RA-1's to rent and they are spoken for. I have another set of wheels, but I don't have the $800 to slap a set on them currently.

All this talk is getting me aroused!

Because of the weight transfer, majority of the braking is done by the front brakes and tires. Our cars' brake bias is non-adjustable unless you modify it. I think the only reason Carbotech recommends XP10's for fronts and XP8's for rears is the fact that the front brakes operate at a higher temperature than the rears, and XP10's can withstand higher operating temperatures than XP8's.

My RA-1's are mounted on a set of stock AP1 wheels. I actually prefer them this way because I think the added sidewall lets the contact patch roll a little bit more to the edge of the tread. Just a theory, though... I have no real data to back it up.

Anywho... It works fine. I recommend it too because AP1 wheels can be had pretty cheap.

For what it is worth, I am a member of the Carbotech Xp10/8 club, too. I have run the same set of pads for four track days and about a dozen auto-x. They work great and really hold up well.

+1 for XP10/8's. I ran this setup at FC07 with Toyo RA-1's and even without the big front sway the car was unbelievable.
