i'm definitely getting it checked, but i'm wondering how far i should go. if $97 entails popping off the valve cover and looking around (as i suspect it does), then should i stop there, or pay the estimated $500 to have them removed and inspected. i know the second option is a cure-all to my pesky problem, but as i forementioned i'm strapped for cash.

my understanding is that worn retainers get worse as time goes on. so i figure after 6 months the retainers should be cracked to the point that they are sitting higher on the springs, thus being visible without removal. correct me if i'm wrong.

So where should someone go to have the valves/seats/retainers/ checked after an overrev in the MID-A area? I had a misshift (about a month ago) and was wondering if I should have everything checked out (correctly and thoroughly). The piece of mind is more important than the money to me. Not trying to thread jack...LOL

he then went on to say that he revs his CBR to 14k all the time and it's had no issues,
besides the point that Naveed brought up....maybe someone needs to really inform Fairfax Honda that an S2000 IS NOT a CBR or any other motorcycle and/or car.

Where to bring it? not sure

Where not to bring it? Fairfax Honda

As for most, if not all motor work, my vote goes to Inline PRO...

Yes, I am a fan of InlinePro as well, but I didn't want to burden them with routine maintenance work. I'm not even sure they'd do it unless I get a turbo installed at the same time

If you're going to take them off to inspect them, why not just put new ones on? Maybe some AP2 retainers. I certainly wouldn't take off retainers and just slap them back on again after an over-rev. Especially knowing they're a weak link in the valvetrain.

As for the S2K tech. That's just more proof in my "most people are incompetent" theory.

I know I am probably going to get flamed for saying this but....Dont you think that Honda should have "trained" their techs to be more knowledgeable on the S2k? I mean, its not like any other car they make ( not counting "King NSX the great" lol). I mean civic SI's and ITR's are incredible machines but the S is in a class by itself. You just cant have "any old joe" working on an s2k and think the owners are going to be happy and not concerned. I think honda dropped the ball when it comes to their training for the S. Its not like in the beginning (99 and 00) when little was known about the S. I guess Honda figures that its going to be discountinued anyway.....hell.....why bother? You can go to almost any Honda/Acura dealership and find a guy who is a stud on B-series engines. But finding a stud on an F20 or F22 .....its hit or miss . Just my .02 ..Sorry for the book long post.
