Default Bedding Carbotech Brakes

Well, the Carbotech brake pads arrived today, just in time for the track day April 28. I went with the XP10/XP8 combination that several folks are using. I plan to put the new rotors and track pads on later this week (and change brake fluid).

Carbotech has some pretty specific bedding instructions for their track pads which state in no uncertain terms that you should bed them at the track. Problem is that I need to put them on at home and then drive to wild and wonderful (West Virginia) to get to the track. It is only about 70 miles.

Should I

1) Try to bed them on I-70/highway 29/local roads
2) Don't worry about it and wait to bed them till I get to Summit Point
3) Any other suggestions...

Thanks!!

John

John,

You can bed them on 29, it only takes a few good acceleration and hard stops to bed them. I installed my at the hotel and bedded them on the road behind the hotel. Have fun! I couldn't get a spot in group 1 or 2 this time.

I know a GREAT road out there for bedding. I use it... um... frequently...

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geoc...38&ie=UTF8&z=14

Point A is the hotel (Holiday Inn Express) and point B is Millville / Bloomery Road. I suggest running it south towards Route 9.

This road is very lightly traveled and VERY quick. Just watch out for critters in the early morning and evening. I'll probably be there, too!

Good luck!

If you drive them on the street for a few days normally, that will help bed them in also. Ideally you need them really hot (when you smell them) after some hard application then let them cool for a few hours.

I run them real real hard till they start to fade. This is very noticeable.

Real hard as in 80-100mph then full stops usually involving ABS. (technically your not supposed to lock them up- but we have ABS) This usually takes 4-5 of these stops- sometimes more.

Then drive with minimal brakes, like on the highway etc for 10 mins or so. Take the car back to your house and let it sit (without the ebrake on of course) for at least 30 mins, longer if you can- Then you should be good to go.

Thats what I do, and my carbotechs have been working great this year.

Thanks for all the input. I put the new pads & rotors on today and flushed the brake fluid. I ran out of time to take it for a spin tonight. I'll take it out tomorrow and get the pads bedded.

Thanks!!
