I just talked to honda guys at bel air honda and no matter what its gonna be pricey I'm going to look for a used diff and they told me they'd throw in different gears for free
Let's get some clarification here. What do you deem pricey?

I agree with Matt(TopGear), if you're concerned about bones, why would you spend the money to have gears put in?

I can vouch for this.. Even though he has an ap2 motor, his car def feels supercharged
Uh... an AP2 has more torque than an AP1 and has gearing in 1-4 that is closer than an AP1. Add gears and of course it's going to be a lot quicker than an AP1.

True!

But in this case, his car is an Ap1, with only the ap2 motor. Everything else is ap1 minus the 4.44 gears.

A stock Ap2 surely didn't feel nearly as fast as his car.

The diff? or the gears into the diff?

You're best bet is to send the diff to Puddy dad. He's awesome. Just to even call him up to ask questions for knowledge, he'll take the time to educate and entertain questions.

You can get the 4.44 gears from Mazdaspeed (membership required) for about $531 delivered. You also need a $150 parts kit for opening the diff. Labor for removing/reinstalling the diff and installing the gears will probably be more than $531 though. Just a gearing swap will cost more than $1000 and could go much higher depending on labor cost.

Ahh so you could get an aftermarket diff for around the same price?

Although it wouldn't have the 4.77 gearing wouldn't that be better in the end?

I texted you last night about saturday's party!

But choosing a final drive is going to depend on what you're going to use the car for. Some say with an ap2 and 4.77's is a bit too much, some may disagree.

tracking, autoXing, daily driving ect.
