No, but it helps. Try and get on an existing team as you really don't want to be figuring how to race without a team of people with more experience to help you.

Also, money helps. Bring a bunch of that to the table.

One more thing. Having raced both now, Lemons seems slower and better suited for those that are new to racing. Chumpcar has faster and more experienced drivers. Their drivers meeting is basically "don't hit the emergency vehicle; other than that you know what to do." Having said that we did have a driver with zero track experience that did fine under our careful tutilage.

It sounds like quite the experience...I am sure it helped to know the VIR track like the back of your hand when you couldn't see well! Congrats on finishing guys!

Personally, I would want to have more experience before trying something like this. Other than the differences in driver skills, are there any other differences in the Lemons and Chump Car?

Do you need a HANS, emergency cut-off, the whole nine yards?

I believe safety requirements are the same to any W2W racing.

Crazy experience. I'm sure it was fun as hell though.

Well, we are back. The Volvo held together this time and we finished 20th of 52. Given the major speed difference between our car and some of the others, that wasnt bad. Overall we were very happy with the outcome. Chumpcar is more like "real" racing than Lemons.

Racing VIR in the dark is crazy. There are no lights. Probably one of the least intelligent and most fun things I've done on a track.

Yea, I ended up bringing up the rear (last driver) and I could not see ANYTHING.

I could not see turn-in or the side of the track, I could not see apexes. I often could not see other cars (just a blur of lights around me). It was seriously nuts, we need a brighter light setup. I was 2-3 tires off everywhere and all the time. If I was not sure if a car was close, I just drove off the side ionto the dirt and kept it floored in order to get by.

There were no flags/corner workers visible, just some lights at a couple of corner stations.

At one point, I zoom around a turn and see a car stopped off on my right and another set of headlights coming directly at me (maybe 10 feet away and going 25mph while I am going 60mph) on my left (car had spun out and he was trying to get back onto the track).

We also did not reset the timer so I had no idea when the checkered would get thrown, I just kept driving till I saw it fall. I guess I was probably in the dark for ~1.5 hours going as fast as I could without being able to see anything.

But it worked out because we went from 23rd to 20th.
