225s on the rear of an early AP1, really sounds like you will be spinning a lot.

Back on track. Stephanie keeps asking questions about roll bars and such. I think it might be a groom's gift. If not, it's going to be a gift to myself when the dust settles from the wedding. In the mean time, I plan to do at least the May Shenandoah event if I can get the car ready. Will probably do one other event TBD in the STi.

Speaking from experience, put your trackday money into s2k seat time. The s2k was a lot more fun on track than the sti. My sti pushed like crazy even with mild mods.

I'm not in a position right now to drop $1k+ on a new set of wheels and tires, and if I'm saving for anything I'd prefer to be doing it for a rollbar.

My other option is auto-xing on the OE 16"s with a 225/205 stagger, tires are nitto 450s on those.

are there any suggested mods on the inexpensive side that would make the square 225 RS3s usable? I thought all the fast guys run square setups anyway

Yes, most of those fast guys runs square setups which is 245s or 255s square with thicker FSB and stiffer COs or springs. I think if you stay on AP1 OEM staggered set up you will be fine specialy on your first track day. You will be too busy listening to your instructor and learning entry, exit point and looking for apexes that you will forget what kind of tires you have.

I would not recommend the 225 RS3s square also if you have not practice on it but then again on the first day if you don't pust too hard you might be fine also.

Thanks for the advice.

I think what I'm going to end up doing is running a couple autocrosses on them and see what happens. If they're too spinny I'll buy a pair of the 205/55/16 ones for the fronts, and swap them all over to the OE wheels, and use the 16x7s (Which are crappy cheap wheels anyway) as winters with the all season tires for now and eventually some dedicated winter tires.

New wheels are just not in the budget for now, and track days are not going to happen until I get a rollbar anyway, which is planned for next spring. This car has to stay streetable anyway as per the wife's instruction and love of top-down motoring.

Anything else recommended to make the car less twitchy, like disconnecting the rear sway or getting one of the Megan BSKs (I did the reading and know I have to shave the bolt to clear 16"s)?

Just got on the wait list for the March 31st SATT. Hopefully somebody drops out and I get a spot. Anybody going to be there?

The standard way to address this is a big FSB. No reason to think it won't work for you.

I have one of the 2010 Special Editions. They really did improve the balance of the car quite a bit with this release. Even in stock form it will rotate. Not under any kind of power, but off throttle and/or trail braking and it gets around. I did one event last year at Shenandoah on the OE Dunlop SP600's and was impressed with the car. I was still getting used to it, but it did well. I think with proper summer tires (now on Star Specs) it should be a bit more enjoyable. The S2000 will be my focus, but what's the fun of having the STi if I don't bring it out to play once in a while.

Ok, my experience was with an 04.

The fun for that car comes from snow covered roads.
