You guys are discounting the cost of building and running an S2000 race car. It's not cheap converting an HPDE car to a logbook carrying racer.

True, but there are so many used parts for sale out there that parts replacement should be covered. Also there is a lot of wrecked S2000 already that getting one for the series should be not that hard.

Of course it's still going to be an expensive endeavor.

That said. 350Z series is very interersting to me.
Check the price of a 350Z race car or simply add about $10,000 to the cost of a streetable used 350Z. There's an incredible amount of labor involved in prepping the car + the cost of the roll cage. The more competitive you become the harder it is to run on old tires & parts so the cost of competition continues to climb. I'd love a spec S2000 group to run with but it's an expensive car to race. You'd be better off trying to convince your friends to buy SSM Miatas.

Also, ask our Chump Car guys what they spent on the Volvo. The safety stuff adds up quickly and motor swaps cost either a lot of time or money if you pay someone else to do it.

Racing at any level is much more expensive than you would think.

easily $10k so far between the 4 of us. Oleg's team has probably done it for cheaper given their car doesnt explode at every race.

What Rob said.

If you can find a $7k S2000 to start with you MIGHT be able to get it race ready for 15k total. In racing terms, its not all that much money, but its still 15k.

I maintain that one of the biggest expenses with tracking cars is changing your mind and swapping parts and "evolving it from street to HPDE and street, to mainly track, then track only, then racing. Each step wastes money. If I knew what I wanted to do with this car originally, I could have saved thousands of dollars and many many hours of time.

Though I haven't crossed the line yet, I am still kicking myself for not buying Scot's S for 12K.
