Need some advice... I had 4.56 gears in the past, but never went to the track with them. I sold the gears/diff and I've done all my track days with the 4.10. The guy I sold the gears to is selling his car and parting out the diff. I know the gearing is depend on the track configuration, but is there a benefit (faster laptimes) going from 4.10 to 4.56 ratio? Gears is low on the priority list, but would capitalize on the opportunity if it is somewhat beneficial. Thoughts?

Edit: I just got back to tracking this year, but I figure that NJMP (Thunderbolt/Lightning) & Summit Pt (Main/Shenandoah) will be the most visited tracks in the future. With 1x VIR & WGI per year.

Hey Matt, do you have these pieces that I cut for sale? I remember you were selling a lot of interior bits.
Did you have to cut the side pieces to get them back in? I was somehow able to cram mine back in with out cutting, but I haven't seen others able to do the same thing. I am interested to see how you did the tray though.

I really like having the gears, also keep in mind that you can't get the 4.56s anymore unless you find them used. I had to go with the 4.44s instead during my last diff replacement.

I have 4.77's. Sometimes they're too short. Other times it's helpful...

I did cut the side pieces. I was sort of able to cram them back in, and they would probably have been ok, but I couldn't quite line up the hole where the screw would go. I just wasn't quite comfortable leaving the things in there without any sort of fastener, even though they were pretty snug. You can see where I lined the green painter's tape was where I cut.

I just used some standard zip ties to loop around the roll bar, there are 4 holes. Simple, yet effective. It is held down really well now. Plus, if running top down, the top is laying on the tray anyway

Edit: Pictures are always a 1000 words

Dude, use black zip-ties!

^This. In theory using lower diff gearing makes the gearbox more usable by lowering 6th gear to something that is needed on track. But as I found out it's track dependent. I had to add two shifts per lap when I went from 4.10 to 4.44 gearing on Summit Main. I only have two events with the lower gearing so I can't say if it has lowered my lap times around Summit Main but I doubt the gearing change was beneficial.

If you have to open your diff anyway you might consider a gear swap, but even then it's big money and hit-or-miss on helping on any particular track.

I know I bought a pack with 1000 zip ties! not realizing that the only ones actually in there long enough to wrap all the way around were the white ones. I would have to link 3 together of the black ones to reach. I'll probably eventually cut these ones off and replace them with some black ones.

Is the LSD more beneficial than the gearing change?
