This would be fun: http://www.factoryfive.com/kits/project-818/concept/
They're talking fully built for ~$15,000...
I know, but I kind of think $20K is more logical. After all, ~$10K for the kit, and then you still need a decent WRX (~$10K), plus if you wanted a STI version it would add additional cost. But still, not bad.

The site said STi will not work. I presume it is some difference between the 5 speed and 6 speed gearbox.

The Miata has really grown up over the years.

I like the clouds in this pic. Cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war!

That must have been awesome. Cars are looking great. That is what Matt was saying is $200 per person for about 3 hours?

Ah ok. But the WRXs all are turbo, and are pretty stout drivelines right?

P.S. Just took a look at the How To links in your signature..they are awesome! Very clean looking and helpful. Nerd Racing FTW!

^Ever since the WRX went to the 2.5L engine the STI lost a huge advantage. The motors aren't identical but with the same size turbo/injectors/etc they will make identical power. The STI engine won't hold up to any more abuse than the WRX engine either. If you go back to the 2.0L WRX engines then there begins to be a good difference but even those are pretty stout motors.

I'm not sure how the newer 5spd WRX transmissions are but anything pre '07 was prone to failure when abused. The 6spd is just about bullet proof. The size/weight difference is HUGE. 6spd is around 80lbs heavier.

Now with a much lighter car I'd bet the 5spd trans would hold up to more abuse. It's a tough call though. I think it depends more on driver skill than anything else. I had a buddy with a '02 that saw regular trips to the drag strip and autocross for years running an upgraded turbo that was on a stock trans/clutch and he could shift so fast and hard yet smooth at the same time and he never had a problem. Then I knew others that had blown up gearboxes on the stock turbo.

Interesting Steve, thanks. That car is supposed to be under 2000 lbs if I read correctly..you wouldn't even need upgraded turbo or injectors.

Ah nice. Is that because you are instructors? Or can anybody rent the track when it is available if you put enough money up? If that's the case, I may want to organize something sometime in the future, albiet with people in my skill class of course. Otherwise they'd be holding a white flag and blue/orange flag up the entire time

They have Twilight FATTs (basically a 2.5 hour evening FATT) that will provide instructors. Up to 12 people.

This was a twilight seat time and they basically require that you are a Group 2 solo FATT driver and/or have a comp license. No instructors are provided. Up to 6 people.

Cars look nice Pete! Is there any advantages that miata has compared to s2k? Asking you since you have both.
Talking about Lemons.... we had a blown headgasket.... Took the head off and machine shop ended up milling 30thou off the head to make it straight again!
The car seems to be running now, we will see what's gonna happen this weekend
