Update from the Sunday incident @ Summit.
Thanks for all the support, he doing well. The surgery accomplished everything it was supposed to. Dad said his back is no longer bothering him but the area they went in through to perform the surgery is a bit painful. They moved him out of icu and into a regular room. He saw a physical therapist and was on his feet for a short time with some suppot.
First, let me thank everybody for helping Sean and Debbie get collected and Anders for letting us park the trailer at his place. Your help means a lot to all of us.
Everything in the car felt like it worked at impact but I did feel the substraps catch me. When the car came to rest, I was trying to assess what happened and my condition. A great deal of lower back pain and no feeling or movement below the waist. I suspect something was wrong with the sub setup that allowed a little too much movement. I'll have to look at it when I'm up and about. I'm still surprised one vertebra was the only damage. I hit pretty hard.
As for how it happened, I can review everything in my head, but I have no idea why I went off. The first time I've forgotten the camera in a while, so no video. I was following John down the straight, checked brakes early, and started braking around #4. Nothing new. The move I recall is sliding off while in the turn adjusting steering so I wouldn't flip in the gravel pit.
The IV's were all taken out today, the physical therapy has started and the prognosis is good. Turns out that I demolished my T12 vertebra. I'm still at the Winchester Medical Center, but hope to head home on Monday.

Thanks for all of the positive thoughts and support. I'm headed home from the hospital today. A little weak in the legs, but full feeling and movement. A little more PT and I should be back to normal.
I don't recall if I said it here yet, but the EV crews did a fantastic job of taking care of me and getting me into the right hands. Two weeks and back on my feet is a pretty fantastic outcome considering. Those that were first to the car to help me did everything right as far as I can tell, and that made the rest possible. Thanks to all of those involved in getting me off the track.

Good to hear. Sounds like he got tapped from behind or had a rear tire going down, or something that wasn't related to his driving.

can you post a pic? Are you going to make me one? Is this stuff strong enough to be able to stand on the splitter? They need to be really stiff.

I'll make one splitter first. Evaluate the design, (I have couple of modifications that I might do on the second one) and then build several more for myself and others.
That whole standing on the splitter test is a bit of an overkill....one should recognize that the pressure distribution on the splitter under normal operating conditions and while standing on it is completely different. The best way to evaluate it's quality is to have someone take pictures of the car while driving or mount a gopro and look for deformation. But given how stiff the material is, I believe that I would be able to stand on it.

Because our ride height is so high compared to most true race cars a little splitter deformation (lip down toward the ground) can be helpful in getting the lip lower to the ground, capturing more air on top of the splitter (more down force) and reducing the air flow under the car (less drag). So as long as it's not bending like crazy it'll work just fine.
