The more I learn, the more I realize that's true. I thought I had a good idea of how much this would cost, but I definitely underestimated it. I just can't tell you how much I want to get out there right now, and get started! I've been waiting to do this since the day I bought my car.

Between seats, brakes, tires, and $$$ for track time, it might still be a little while before I can fit all of this into my budget though. I'm getting a raise in June. Maybe that'll do it.
I have a set of brand new front rotors that I bought from brakeswap last year. I also have some Hawk HT-10 front brake pads bedded and ready to go. I have since then sold my S2K. Id be happy to sell them to you for $150?

You could go CT XP10 front and XP 8 rear. Then use the CT AX6 for street driving. No need to mess around with rotors.
You will tire of swapping pads or rotors after each track day REAL fast. I think i went 2 track days before saying F it and now the XP10/8s stay on all the time.

Chicks dig the squeaking.

Oh, and listen to Rob. Don't track your spending on this as it will make you sick.

There is a lot of startup costs (getting the safety gear, go fast parts etc). Once that has been done you are looking at maintaining things (tires, pads, rotors, fluids). Also entry fees.

The issue is that it is a TON of fun so when you start doing track events, you will want to do more.
The other thing that costs lots of money is changing your mind.

Doing it right from the beginning is much less expensive than redoing it halfway through. Try not to compromise on parts and alterations.

To some extent, all of us track junkies here have wasted money redoing stuff.

I keep track of my expenses in Quicken and made the mistake one year of doing an annual report of "Track" expenses. I freaked. I'll never look again, I just don't want to know.

No Quickens here but my wife tracked my expenses on my first year of autocross. She could not believe how much I spent preping the car and I could not believe it either. I have no idea where the monies went.

So we stop tracking I put all the receipt though in a shoe box and I have excell spread sheet tracking maintenance but no total expenses.

How does autocross get to be expensive?

It's mostly on the prep or related to it...along the way I got set of AP2 wheels, K&N FIPK, 2 sets to UHP tires, replaced front bumper, replaced front fender lining, cat back exhaust, new sets of OEM brake pads, Spellier lowering springs, various tools (at least $500 worth and keep climbing) couple sets of shoes (to look cool), gas to and from autocross venues (usualy hour and half drive, fill up on the way and fill up when back home), food, snacks and other maintenance to keep the car in top shape.

These are the few that I can think of. Trust me, start tracking every dollar and you will see.

Oh, that stuff doesn't count since I was going to do it anyway.

Keep laughing! Wait till you see what you have spent on your $500 lemons car after a few races.

By the third race or so, you will be running a quad turbo, Cosworth built, twin cam engine with sequential transmission and MOTEC managment.
