Default 4.77 gears

i know there are many different companies that make this for our car.. is there any big difference or any differences at all in which company? i was planning on getting ricks because of the oem installation kit + yellow box. also, how is the install for those who've installed it themselves? thanks in advance.

I kinda thought that the only other source for these gears was "J's" and they are made no different than the ones that Rick's sells. I don't think you can go wrong with Rick's product.
As for the install, here:

It's not a small job but doable. Don't even attempt the actual gear calibration unless you have years of rear end experience and have the tools and gauges to do it right. If done wrong, it will be your worst nightmare.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! A body shop knows NOTHING about mechanical work, just body repair and painting.
You need to find a shop that routinely does rear differentials and as a last resort, one that does truck rear diffs. And even then, you must take them a copy of the pages out of the Helm manual that has ALL the calibration specs as they are unique to our diff. Then you need to fill the diff with the proper fluid, like Mobil 1 synthetic 75W90 hypoid gear lube GL-5. And as insurance, after about 1000 miles, replace the fluid again. Then you're good for the next 10K - 20K miles depending on how hard you are with your car.
