MY00 ECU+Apexi Vs. MY03+Apexi
So i got my stock My00 ecu with afc new which i recently purchased, read here and there that its better to swap a MY03 ECU into a My00/01 s2k.
I want to know the difference between the Ecu's..from what ive searched the 03 has better AFR, thats the only thing i know, if there is something else please share
And should i get my self a MY03 ecu + the afc tune up or stick to my my00 ECU, will there be a difference..

I did the 2001 to 2003 ecu swap and loved the difference. It is NOT night and day but just a lot more pleasurable in 0-45 mph speeds. It can be done for ~$160. Don't pay more than $100 for a used ECU and verify the part number before purchase so you don't get sold another 2000-2001. Any dealer can reprogrm the keys for about a half hour of labor charge.
Nobody seems to know for sure if it is leaner fuel map or more timing advance. I would venture a guess that it is timing advance because you notice the change in low rpms more. Most tuners are getting more hp at the bottom with timing, and hp at the top by leaning out fuel.
If you plan to do something like EMS or EMU later, I would skip the ecu swap. But if you want a little pep for less than $200, I highly recommend it. A former board member who used to post and runs a dyno (UL) worked with lots of S2000's said the 2002-2003 were making about 5hp more across the entire rev range than 2000-2001s. Nothing enormous but about as good as you are going to get for less than $200.
I was not expecting that much, but now that used ones can be had so cheap, I was very satisfied with what I got for my small amount of money.

I think you will also need the VIN from the new ECU's original car to give to Honda so they can reprogram it for your keys (not positive though). The best thing to do is drive your car with your original ecu to the dealership with all of your keys, get the new ecu programmed to your keys, drive back home and install it yourself.

I did the swap yesterday, but could not test it due to the snow.
Before I had 2001 ecu and vafc,
now I have 2002 ecu and vafc.
my expectations were better idle and better stop-go traffic characteristic, slightly better top-end (does not matter much, as I have vafc), and better gas response in bottom-end.
It is known that 02-03 MY's are producing a little higher whp comapred to 99-01, and the only know difference in between 01-02 is the ecu. so, that must be the reason... I guess after they tried 3 years (99-00-01), honda decided that more advance would be good.
Within a week, I will have the answers.

thanks vader1, im not playing on a standalone ECU as i dont have any plans for FI or track..etc
thats what i wanted to know if the 03 has better timing and AFR.
as ive understood from your post that it does have advanced timing which means it will work better with the Afc..
how can i know if the ECU is my00/01 or my02/03 from the VIN?
D1sclaimer..thanks i thought i gotta have the keys with the ecu, there are lots of shops that do that in my country..cheaper than the dealer lol.
Bigwhite..please let me know the resault..ill be waiting for the result.

yesterday I entered in stop-go traffic,
with 2002 ecu, there is no bogging, hesitation etc. DEfinately more drivable (you can easily feel the difference). As I did not have chance to make acceleration test I dont know how is the perf. difference.

It must end in the A02 suffix!!!!!!
I did a search here
http://car-part.com
and at the time found one for $100. The lowest I see currently is $150 but you can try the WTB forum on this board.
