Thumbs up Moving to Japan

I'm in the Navy and will be moving to Japan (Yokosuka Naval Base) which is about 1 hour 45 minutes from Tokyo.

I will be stationed there for about 2 possibly 4 years.

My question is.... I've currently parted out my car with the intention of selling it instead of keeping it in storage. But with the prospect of being able to buy JDM parts at a discounted price, I'm considering keeping my car as it is (in stock form) and storing it. (Navy pays storage) Mean while just before leaving Japan, I would purchase all the parts that I want and bring them back with me and let the Navy pay for the shipping.

Do you think that this is a good idea or do you think that the savings that I will or will not get be nominal and not worth the depreciation on my car while it's in storage?

I realize that the S2000 will EVENTUALLY be discontinued and I really hate to let my car go...

Thoughts?

Tim

I would love to do that....but unfortunately Japan still has the limitation on vehicles imported to the island. 10-12 model years or OLDER only.

I wasn't big into JDM when I was in Japan back in the late 80's.... but now that I'm going back I have this vision of stores packed full of s2000 goodies..

Are you serious? Don't get me all worked up for nothing... When was the last time you were in Japan?

Can I litterally grab $hit off the shelves or is it like in the USDM and I still have to "ORDER" the stuff.

Tim,

I am also in the service as you can see and I wish I was in your shoes. Navy has good base in a nice city/country compared to the Army.

I know you can get good discount if you go to used part shop and it will be pretty cheap I'm sure.

I think it will be worth it due to the fact that you can buy direct from the company and no shipping is needed. Some of the cost we pay here is the shipping, picking it up, and etc...

You might think about selling the s2k and maybe buy JDM car in Japen and bringing it back. It doesnt have to be s2k but maybe few years old R33/34 GT-R or something.

I am not sure what regulations in the Navy with buying and bringing car to the states but worth finding out.

Lastly, I am sure people like Ben @ bulletproof and Ben @ AJ-racing know more about the price.
