j's cooling plate

j's cooling plate
I was going to buy a J's or AUT cooling plate with the molded in "scoop" for the stock air box and replace the filter with a K&N. Is this a decent mod or am I better off just buying a K&N FIPK?

The scoop helps either way -- the K&N FIPK is open on the front side (facing the front bumper) to allow more air in anyway, so it works well either way. There are members that have done just as well as any intake though with just dropping in a quality filter to the regular box and then gutting the box. If you do a search on gutting the intake box, you should find some instructions on how to do it, it's not hard and keeps the kind of sleeper look (and saves you about $250), but I would think the sound would be better with the FIPK.

Will I get any more sound out of gutting the airbox or do I get the sleeper sound with the sleeper look?

The sound will not change very much with a gutted stock air box.
With the FIPK the sound will change and it does sound good (nice and agressive) throttle response was better and it doesn't really heat soak, I give it
