Default Doing Custom Apexi N1 Exhaust.. questions

I was thinking about buying an Apexi N1 muffler and doing a custom exhaust system, especially due to the fact that I have heard compatibility issues with the existing bolt on exhausts for the 06 model.

Also:

I have an N1 on my 05 IS300 and it is the best sounding exhaust I have ever heard IMO...

I would like to remove the resonator from the existing setup and put on an N1..

The question I had is, if I am going with only one muffler instead of the dual on the car stock, should I go with 2.5" piping OR 3.0"?????

I am planning to stay NA and planning on doing the Hondata reflash, intake, headers as well... will I lose too much lowend power if I go with 3.0"? I obviously prefer 3.0"

Thanks for the info in advance!

go for 2.75 inches. That is 70mm, the proven size for best horsepower for non forced induction.

Also, it's a header, not headers. Our car isn't a V6

I have a jic 2.5 exhaust on my car right now and I'm about to put a custom 3inch exhaust with a smoked black Apexi muffler on it. I'm going to dyno the car first with the current exhaust and then try the custom one. I will post my comparison when its complete.

Sounds good.. What type of car is that on?

By the way, I got my N1 installed same way as yours, 3" N1 with 2.5" piping enlarged at the muffler to fit 3". I first had it setup with no resonators, drove it for a day and it sounded really nice but WAY too loud, I couldn't stand it... I went back to the shop today and I had them install a magnapack resonator.. drove it off and still pretty much sounds the same.. maybe 5-10% quieter only.

Where did you fit a SECOND resonator?? There is no room left! I will be going back to the shop to have another resonator installed as it is still way too loud...

Does anyone know of a better resonator than the Magnaflow Magnapack I can use to silence it a bit?

Also, has anyone tried running the stock setup but with no resonator? How does it sound?

Thanks for all the info...

i am in between exhausts right now, i am having a cutome 70mm single made. so i am running my stock duals. test pipe, no resonator. it sounds good. a hair bit tiny at low rpm, but sounds just like comptech at 5k+. nice growl, no booming or droaning. not bad. i can feel the power loss, from my spoon.

my new exhaust is going to be straight outta the circut. 70mm header back, no resonator and a megan racing turbo muffler(3inch in, 4 inch out). big power. spoon is damn loud and it didnt really bother me. hearing loss.
