Anyone in Jacksonville attending the yearly dragon event this year, RTD 2021?


We will be attending and leaving on Tuesday. Hope to see some of you guys out there.

Tentative schedule of Dragon Drives (Be sure to check the whiteboard in the lodge to stay up-to-date on any changes to the schedule that may arise)

Thursday - The Maryville and Dinner Drive: Meet at the lodge at 1:00pm for a leisurely drive across the Dragon and the Parkway to Maryville to meet the OKI group. We'll get together and drive to dinner at the Park Grill in Gatlinburg. After dinner, we'll drive the Parkway to the parking lot on Rt. 129 where we'll split into two groups, a spirited group and a more relaxed paced group for a night drive across the Dragon.

Friday - The Intro to the Dragon Drive: Has it been a few years since you've been to the Dragon? Is this your first time? If you answered "Yes" to either of these questions, then this is the drive for you! Join in Friday morning for a refresher, where you'll be re-acclimated (or introduced) to the type of driving this event is all about. Meet in the parking lot in front of the Wildwood Grill at 8:00 am for a brief driver's meeting. There you will meet fellow driving enthusiasts and pick up a few tips & hints to keep you safe and help you have a good time. You'll leave at 8:15 am to begin on Hellbender. The start is at a mild pace to warm up cars, tires, and nerves on our way towards Deal's Gap.Tthen drive the world-famous Tail of the Dragon in a glorious group of purpose-built sports cars doing what their engineers designed them to do. After you've conquered the beast (oaky, maybe not, but successfully driven it in a group), there will be a stop at the gravel (paved) lot to take a break and a picture or two. You'll have plenty of time to get back and join the 'Fridays are for Franklin' drive.

Friday - The official start of Rock the Dragon 2021 and Friday's are for Franklin: Drive to Franklin for lunch and then other drives in the area. We will be getting everyone together in the Wildwood Grill parking lot at 10:00 for a quick drivers meeting and then leaving promptly at 10:30 for Franklin. Lunch will be at Cafe REL. Bring cash, they don't take plastic. We'll return to Fontana via Wayah Rd.

Saturday –The Official RtD 2021 DRAGON GROUP DRIVE – Drivers Meeting: 8:45am – Depart: 9:15am: The Main Event. Line up in front of the ball field. The Group Dragon drive is the main event and you'll have an opportunity for a group photo at the paved lot at the end of the drive. After the group drive, there will be other drivers scheduled. Please check the whiteboard in the lobby. To be sure you get to do drives you want, make sure you sign up in advance here in the forum.

 

I'm going on tuesday too. I'm planning a long drive wednesday and you're welcome to join me if you're interested.

 

Are you staying in Fontana? What time are you leaving? Wheres this drive taking you?

 

Yup, staying at Fontana, we're leaving from Fontana and driving to Hot Springs to meet Jamie who is going the other way, then we'll probably follow him back to Fontana.
Here is the first part, Fontana to Hot Springs. The whole day will probably be 8-9 hours.

Man that's a great drive! Unfortunately wont be able to join you, its a bit far for us and have other plans early afternoon. Safe trip and will see you around Fontana when you get back. Any group drive you attending?

 

You can join us for any part of it if you want. I'll be doing the Friday drive to Franklin, and the Saturday drive with Jamie (Joe Photographer). Not sure what I'm doing thursday, maybe the Cherohala drive backwards so I can do lunch at Telico Grains then meet the group the Exon to head to diner.

 

We end up going leaving on Thursday and returning on Sunday.
