Bertus,

Congrats on the car and welcome to s2ki.com. Also, thanks for your membership!

I'm putting this thread in the Introductions forum. Please have a look through the FAQ thread at the top of Introductions and also at the top of S2000 Talk.

Best wishes, and welcome aboard!

(oh, and no VTEC until after 600 miles)

Very nice! After the break in period and learning the tendencies of driving the s2k, you may never want to drive another car again!

The best of luck and welcome to the No. 1 car club with members that are definitely the best in the world.

Enjoy the ride amigo

I wouldn't worry too much. I've done it (5 to 4 downshift) myself twice now in 350 miles - still getting used to the shifter. I asked my friend who restores cars (and sometimes works on engines) and he says it's not that big of a deal. He's breaking in his new STi Limited and he did the same thing a few times himself and is not worried at all. He says modern engines are very solid from the start as opposed to the 60's Ford muscle cars he's restored in the past.

As long as you only sporadically hit the redline, and not on purpose all of the time, you should be fine.

Likely not, if you didn't exceed 8K by much. The AP1 suffered valve damage if you exceeded something like 10,300RPM. The AP2 engine (which you have) is probably exactly the same.

In any case, overrev'ing the car is to be avoided, break in or no. Usually 5 to 4 misshifts aren't problematical, but 5-2 (if you were intending for 4, let's say) could be really bad. My advice is to be very deliberate with your gear selection, particularly when downshifting.

Bertus,

Welcome to s2ki.com, and congrats on your MY07.

Please, please, take it easy as you learn the car. Not to mention, follow the break-in instructions in the owner's manual.
