Thinking about an S2000
Hello all,
Was trying to register but found out I registered 10 years ago . First time posting and just like to say hi to everyone as I'll be gathering information and asking questions on a future S2000 purchase. Currently drives an E46 and E90 M3. But something special tinkles me every time I see an S2000 LOL.
First time I saw an S2000 was back in 00' when a friend of mine pulls into the high school parking lot. It looked really great and still is today. It was the car everyone talked about through the last couple months of my high school days.
Now I'm in my 30's, and are just thinking about collecting cars I wish I could afford but couldn't back in the days. Cars like the E39 M5, F360 and of course S2000. It's really great to know cars I fell in love with back in the days are still being cherished by enthusiasts around the world. Hence the reason I joined this forum and will be needing everyone's help to fulfill desires that has been calling for me for years.
Can I have everyone's suggestions on what year and things to watch out on purchasing an S2000? Thinking about an AP2 with clean aero kit. Will be keeping it N/A and maybe just some final gearing to help low end torque (work wonders on my E46 at the track) Too bad they don't make new S2k anymore. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

welcome. if i could do it again i would look into a 2008-09 cr with very low miles. they are out there and IMO the best looking and best driving (stock).
change the gearing and you will be so happy, and they are rare indeed

Welcome back, you'll find a lot of good stuff here.
But you know what, there's not much auto hypochondria here becuase the S2000 is the most durable and reliable high performance car I could find.
We talk about which color is best and how much fun we have, not about the design flaws of specific years or the latest expensive heartbreak.( you should try a porsche/BMW site).
This is a great time to by an S2000, because they are still relatively unknown and cheap while becoming extinct.
( back in 2000 a few friends of mine paid over invoice because the s2k "was only being built for one year", I tell them my '06 is a kit car Civic to spare their feelings )

Having been a BMW fanatic, and currently own 1 of 49 BMW 740i in Imola Red, I can say they are a dream to drive. But the upkeep is nuts. I am a pure hearted enthusiast, replacing things that didn't need replacing (preventative maintenance) and things still managed to go wrong. I sold a E39 540i for an S2000 and never looked back. When I lost my license and sold the S2000, I bought this Imola Red E38.. I've regretted selling the S2000 ever since. Such an amazing car, and the best car I've owned. I've driven E46 M3s and E39 M5s constantly. After getting into an E46 M3 from an S2000, I felt like I was driving a bus. S2000 does what those cars can do but better. Add a S/C and your set. I read Sports Compact Car Magazine managed a 0.92G and 71.1mph in the S2000, that the M couldn't match.
