Default Is there a buyers guide for used S2Ks?

Hi all,

I'm new to the forums but am trying to read all that I can about buying a used S2k.

Is there are buyers guide or FAQ posted somewhere that I have missed? (My apologies if I missed it.) I've seen this in other car forums. They usually talk about faults and problem areas to look for when inspecting a car. And also the pros or cons of the different model years.

Follow up question -- I've been using Ebay and Autotrader to get an idea of prices for the different model years and amount of mileage. Most cars on Ebay don't even sell, and the ones that do are much, much lower than the prices posted elsewhere (even accounting for the haggling that goes on in a private sale.) Are Ebay prices pretty indicative of what I should expect to pay in a face-to-face sale, or is that Ebay price reflecting the discount (and tradeoff) that comes from buying a car that often hasn't been inspected or test driven?

Thanks all.

Thanks. That covers the differences in year models.

However, I'm still looking for something more like a how-to on inspecting a used S2k. I'm guessing from the lack of replies there is no such thing.

Thanks again.

Hi PIC, welcome to the forum. I Purchased mine 3 months ago. First, find out if you want a AP1 or AP2.

Here are things to check and that can also be used to negotiate;

Soft top (look for tears)
Soft top plastic glass (pricey to replace)
Soft top (make sure it works well)
AP1 (2000-2003) burn a bit of oil when in vtec -- Some burn a lot. (can't really know)
Driver's seat (the lower left is often damaged because of the way you get in the car)
AP1 (2000-2003) clutch buzz when decelerating (won't cause damage it's just annoying)

Some stuff you can check to protect yourself;

Do a carcheck, carproof, carfax (carfax is a bit innacurate)
Check vin numbers on various body parts to make sure they match (this could show you a cover up)
call honda america to get the vehicule record history and recalls.
Do a compression test.

No official buyers guide although there is enough collective knowledge and info around here to put together a pretty good one. Here is a link to someone that started just that:
