Hello everyone, looks like things are pointing me towards an S2k.

I was dual car-ing my legacy and my flippy headlight miata. Sold the miata to buy a mint mini cooper S that I was supposed to buy at trade-in pricing. but the guy apparently couldnt wait the 2 days it took for me to check out the car and traded it in.

So no miata, looking for a replacement. I'm down for another miata but life's too short to drive the same car twice. technically I coulda gotten the non flippy headlight miata but somehow i amassed 10k-ish so now I'm looking for an clean AP1.

Had a few questions if anyone is so inclined to answer-
1. Does the carpet console of the 00/01 really suck?
2. Does the audio and fan of the 00/01 really suck compared to the 02?
3. I see a lot of cars with sound systems. Can you really hear anything? My cousin had an AP1 with an invidia catback and you couldnt hear ANYTHING besides the exhaust. (nothing really wrong with that, but a sound system appears useless to me)

Plans for the S. keeping it pretty simple... KWs, stoptechs, RPF1s. might see some track action (after that s2000 massacre video im less inclined lol), more than likely autocross action. and if im feeling it, maybe get a spare trunk lid and a big wing for aero during events.

And since I like to whore my cars out every chance I get, here we go

Miata:



its a blueish blackish color but in every picture it looks purple. driving a purple miata in the san francisco bay area isnt as big a deal as one might think when i sold it, it had the roll bar, exhaust, sways and konis. slow but fun as hell. sold it for almost nothing..

Legacy:





The car is a 393whp beast. supposed to be in the 11s, but I cant launch for crap, and not wanting to learn. big turbo KW coils, brembos all around. I've had around 7 sets of wheels on this car in the span of 2 years. Finally got over my wheel whoring by spending 2k on a set of wheels. at which point i was fed up and got the set of RPF1s that I have now. Got rid of the power bug with this car, the s2k is going to be stock motor all the way.

Does the carpet console suck? Kinda subjective. I like it because it reminds me of the '60s Brit cars I used play with...like the original Elan. But most folks like the leather console. Meh...doesn't bother me either way.

AP1 audio does leave something to be desired. Paper cone speaker and no tweets. MY02+ got polycarbonate cones and tweets. Does make a nice difference. To really hear the music, you should upgrade. Most step up the head unit, door speakers and add an amp. I'm pushing 325 watts into 6.5x2 Pioneer speakers. Sound is excellent. I can clearly hear music at 80mph with the top down and I have a single exhaust.

Does the fan suck...seems to blow air just fine to me. My top is down as much as possible anyway.

The good things about the MY02-03: 1) glass rear window...the fading, cracking, hazing plastic one is annoying; 2) more aggressive ecu fuel maps.

I think i'm gonna try to grab an 02+ then. the 00/01s arent much cheaper and the upgrades cost more than the price difference..

Nice Legacy. Was considering one of those before I bought the S.

If your going to buy an s2000, best years are 02-05 IMO..

00-01s has plastic rear window
06+ has dbw,vsa,traction control, and other nonsense. Also pretty expensive..

i guess that makes us brothers.

 

Ive had both MY00 and MY02

The speakers in MY00 are crap, paper cones are horrible, I dont know how much worse they are than later models because MY02 has upgraded componets. The leather console is definately a nice touch, even if you have a carpet center console its easy to just switch it out anyway though. The fans in MY02 are much stronger than in MY00. At night my car warms up much faster imo.

I am picking up an AP2 on friday. stretched the budget a little but I think I got the deal of the summer so it's worth it.

Dont think anyone needs to see a stock AP2 but I'll have some pics up.
