Default Question on California sold S2Ks

Hello all, new future owner making my first post. I've been lurking here for about 6 months, and I've got my heart set on buying a used S2000 in the next 6 months or so.

Anyway, my question is, are there any differences between S2000s sold in California versus those sold in the rest of the country? I know some CA sold cars are hobbled with extra CA smog garbage, or tweaked to meet emissions. The northern CA market is saturated with used S2000s, so this is most likely where I'm going to buy one, but I don't want a car crippled by Califonia smog madness.

By the way, I currently own a supercharged CRX (non-riced). I'm a Honda guy through and through, and to me the S2000 represents the pinnacle of Honda enjoyment. I can't wait to get one.

I'm not certain, but I believe all late model Hondas are the same in all 50 states. In addition to California, several other states (mostly in the Northeast) have also adopted Cal standards. Looking at my owner's manual for an '05, it makes no distinction for Cal emissions standards. You should call Honda HQ to find out about the specific model and year that you have in mind.

I bought my S2000 in Minnesota. I brought it with when I moved to California. It passed all of the smog checks just fine. So in that sense, I don't see why the S2000's sold in California would be any different. On the other hand, I don't know for sure, so I'll shut up now.

Skull, there used to be a period when cars received a separate certification in CA for smog, etc.

Jason, all model year S2000s are 50-state emissions certified. In fact, at the time the S2000 came out, it's LEV (low emission vehicle) rating was pretty unique in the sports car world. It's one of the many reasons I bought the car. The S2000 is a very clean powerplant.

Nice thoughts on the car, Jason! I wish you well in your hunt, and I'm sure you'll join us soon!

Thanks for the answers everyone. Once I get back from Iraq, out of the Army, and moved to Reno Nevada, I'll be in the hunt for a used S. My ideal find would be a black/black '04 with low mileage, and the northern California seems to have tons of used S2Ks floating around.
