Prospective owner
Hi there,
I had my eye on a 2005 Lotus, but I just bought a house that pushed the Lotus out of the budget. I was considering AP2 cars, but I can't find any that are lower than about $19k. I'm considering other cars, such as a friend's '03 Evo (he is in a bind and will give it to me cheap), an 05+ RSX type-s, or an '03+ MR2 spyder with leather/LSD, which I haven't been able to find. I got insurance quotes for several cars and apparently once you're ticketless, married, and 24, they don't care to charge you much for insurance for ANYTHING. Even the Elise was only about $70/month.
I've read the FAQs and the differences by year thread (which was very helpful, THANK YOU) and I've found a nice 2002 car:

It's a used dealer but it's a good price and the '02 models have the glass window, a bit more power, and metal accents in the interior. I'm not normally a fan of aftermarket wheels, but these ones are classically beautiful. I also test drove a local '01 and it was pretty cool. I'm not a fan of the tachometer, and the car felt a little washy and disconnected, but take those comments with a grain of salt as I had test-driven an Elise the day before It felt fairly fast and I like 9,000 RPM...
Anyways, I would appreciate any advice or any other trouble areas. I have spent a couple hours looking through the FAQs but don't have that much time to sift through forums, especially when I'm considering a couple other cars just as much. Thanks for your help and I look forward to owning a new car!!

Try this link, lots of good info for prospective owners:

Prices for both AP1 and AP2 are very soft right now, partially because of the general economy and partially because the care is almost 10 years old. If you are going to use it as a DD, I would try to find an AP2, several add'l comfort features make it a bit easier to live with. You should be able to do much better than $19k on one - a fellow OH owner had a beauty - MY04 w/34k miles sold with OEM hardtop and BBS wheels, sold all in for $17k. Keep looking, you'll find some good deals out there.
