Possible S2K Owner?

Possible S2K Owner?
First off thanks for any help!
I am in the market for a sports car that is fun to drive and decently reliable.
My first cars were E30 BMWs and E24 E28 etc (3,6,5 series). I basically got so fed up with the repair bills I just said forget it. The $650 door seal gasket was the final straw.
I ended up buying an american car. Its a 500 Crank HP SS Camaro and while its amazingly powerful and frankly handles great (car has about 40K in suspension and engine work) it has no road feel and frankly to have any fun you are going around a corner at 80MPH sideways tires lit up. Needless to say its not any fun on the road. Its also an AUTO ya I got a super good deal on it or I would have never bought it. Anyways it has served me well and never given me any trouble. It just isn't fun to drive as you have no road feel or feedback etc that makes driving fun.
I frankly got into motorcycles and have several superbikes including a BMW S1K. That being said I now understand what speed is and don't need my car to blow my socks off. I don't ride crazy as I value my life but my slow old Honda motorcycle makes my SS Camaro feel like a slug. I have kinda reevaluated cars now.
I have looked at getting back into the BMW Z4M or Porsche CS cars but every time I get on the forums its IMS issues or BMW has Vanos issues all of which can toast 15K engines for no reason and costs $2000+ to fix and its still not permanent. I just don't want to buy another headache. I am happy to do reasonable repairs but flat out design flaws on 50K new cars is a bit silly. Its not even a money thing as I can afford the problems its like the principle of it lol.
I just wondered how is the reliability on the S2K AP1 AP2? I am entertaining buying one and modding it a bit or doing something crazy like the Amuse kit I have drooled over for years on Speedhunters. I have always wanted a "tuner" car I can put some obnoxious colored wheels on and have some fun. I haven't ruled out the BMW etc but I just would like to explore my options.
I almost bought a BRZ but that engine is so lifeless and ruins the car. It handled like a slot car and was fun but that engine needs some pep. I thought it would get better the more I revved it but it just kinda never woke up. I also was on the 86 forum for awhile and saw tons of reliability stuff guys were having with them so I passed.
Like why is no Japanese auto maker making a good sports car! WHERE ARE THE SUPRAS 300GTs 300ZX when I finally have enough money to afford a new one! Lust after these cars all these years then they just quit making them.
Thanks again for any tips.

While the S2K meets your "sports car" and "reliable" criteria... sounds to meet like you prefer cars with a lot more grunt. So, the Z4 or Porsche might suit you better... but, the repair bills will also have more grunt! Always trade off when choosing a car, none do it all

Hey all!
Found an 2000 S2K Silver local with 27K miles one owner in spotless condition. Its bone stock and looks like it has been waxed and vacuumed every weekend since it was new haha. I will post pictures once I get it home.
These cars are a hoot. I understand the loyal following of them for sure now!
I passed on a 370Z Nismo 2015 just not enough there for 45K for me. I decided not to get back into the BMW deal. I waited out the M2 launch and pricing and just don't think it looks that great for that kinda money. Much more of a fan of the 1M and don't want one out of warranty haha.
This thing handles like a slot car and is exactly what I was looking for since I got out of the E30 game about 10 years ago.
Thanks for help!
