this poor s2k i saw on sat. the interior was a mess. scratches, tears, dirty...the dash, shift knob, seats, carpets....it was so nice on the outside but abused on the inside. which means who knows whats under the hood. this car was not maintained at all. i dont know how a used car dealer could have this car its lot. a 2 yr old car should look new, not old and abused like this one. well back to looking for another s2k.

Best of luck man. Dont' settle for a beat up car...I have been looking at them since 2004....I finally found the one I wanted this weekend!
I'll be posting an intro thread soon, just thought I'd make the above comments for you since I was in your same boat the past month....I looked at a black '02 with 25K miles but the driver seat had a tear and there were at least 3 door dings on each side of the car. Wait till you find that diamond. It's out there.

well i just found a '00 with 47k on it that im going to check out this weekend. is it silver with a black top and black and red interior. he is asking 17k obo, so ill offer 15k and we'll probably meet at 16k. i am definitly going to check the oil level to see if he maintained the oil consumption problem.

Absolutely a good idea to check the oil level, but you won't be able to tell if there's any lurking engine issues from some previous oil starvation problem.
Only way to be (almost) sure is to get a compression and leak-down test done on the engine. Unfortunately, there's no data logging in the early model year ECUs for you to be able to check electronically whether the car's been overrevved or oil-starved.
If your seller is willing, you might want to line that kind of inspection up before forking over the $$. It's a peace of mind thing.
