Hey. I am turning 17 and ready for my first ride. Problem is, I don't know what to get. I'm not sure if I want to go the "classy" route and get a nice convertible coup, or get something sporty and get maybe a focus and hook it up. My range limit is around 30k so please suggest.

2 ideas:

(1) Buy a 2002 S2000 for $20,000 and invest $10k into your ROTH IRA. You'll be a millionaire by 65 and reap the benefits of thoughtful tax planning. Girls love hot cars and rich men, you'll have the best of both worlds.

(2) Or you could get a "hooked up" Focus and 2 years from now wonder where all your money went. Girls don't love crappy cars with penniless drivers.

Any other questions?

Or you can get a beginners car and when you are ready, get an s2k. I really wouldnt recommend this car if you just started driving.

I learn and I learn. I don't want a beginners car that I want to get rid of in 3 months after "learning to drive". Is there any major changes from the 02 to 07 models of the car? Appearance mostly.

well the 2002 is an ap1 and the 2004 and newer are ap2, and visual differnces are not the only thing that makes the ap1 and ap2 different. To name a couple, the ap1 has a 9k redline where the ap2 has an 8k redline, the ap1 has a 2.0 liter engine, and the ap2 is 2.2. Suspension characteristics have changed as well. You can find more by searching around a bit if you want to know more.

Actually some kids have hummer h3s, benzes, etc. etc. so its not that uncommon nowadays. I think I will get the 04 model to have the ap2 stats, but less price then the 07s.

you'd have to purchase the hardtop separately. it comes from the factory with the black soft top.

excellent choice in color!
