New AP1 owner from switzerland!
Hi everybody!
I'm reading these forums since a few weeks. And since i've purchased an S2000 in the meanwhile, i thought i'd make a proper introduction now.
My name's Jonas and i come from Switzerland (a country blessed with some nice and twisty mountain roads ).
Previously i've owned a Mazda MX-5 NB (2nd gen, 1.8L) and then a 1990 Porsche 944 Turbo. The 944 replaced the Mazda back then, and even tho i loved the roadster feeling, the 944 was pretty much of a "step up". I lost it in an accident however when some other motorist didn't pay attention and pulled out in front of me (nobody got injured, but the car was totaled).
After that i had another 944 Turbo, but the first one was in such mint condition, it just wasn't the same anymore. So eventually i've sold it and bought something economical, a VW Polo 1.9 Tdi.
While the Polo is a great car regarding costs, and very reliable in long terms, it is also one of the least entertaining cars i've driven in my life. There is just no emotions at all!
Now, about three years later, i couldn't take it anymore. I had to have something fun again, a real car, made to drive... But after looking around what the market had to offer, there wasn't much to choose from...
I ended up choosing between the following options:
- Another MX-5
- Another 944 Turbo
- Honda S2000
I basically was looking for a car which would be built for a purpose (driving), while staying true to that regarding the design aswell (good interior, focused on driving, good handling, fun, nice looking, etc). And on top of that, it should also be reliable.
The 944 Turbo is getting rare over here, and they are getting old too, meaning they are now expensive (overpriced) to buy, and then will cost you another few thousands to bring back to a mint condition. I decided against it, even tho it still is my favourite car today (and i've had the chance to testdrive cars like a BMW M3, F360 Modena, RX-7 FD (close match), etc).
I was left with either an MX-5 again, or an S2000...
I've always enjoed the Mazda a lot, and it sure was perfectly reliable. But after a testdrive with an S2000, the answer was clear: Must have an S2000!
I was amazed at how much fun this car was to drive! Even tho it didn't perform as good as the 944 did, it wasn't feeling slow at all. For a roadster, i think it has very nice power.
I loved the feel of the interior (clean, simple and fits like a glove!) and the handling appeared to be very good too... and fun! The gearbox, the sound of the engine, the "journey to nine thousand rpm"...
A few (awfully long) weeks later...
It's in quite good condition (a few scratches here and there in the paint, nothing big) and in very good mechanical condition.
The dealer fitted terrible tires from different brands which are still on the car in those pictures. But i've replaced them shortly after with Bridgestone Potenza RE050A and now it handles perfectly.
It'll be driven mostly at weekends and in holidays, in the sunshine with the top down (not like in those pictures ), on twisty mountain roads and maybe someday on the track somewhere in france, italy or germany...
The car is great fun to drive and i'm very happy with the purchase!
Cheers
Jonas

i still don't get the euro model (black things under the headlights), those just spray washer fluid on the lights, there isn't an wipers so is it actually effective ('cause it looks awful)? anyways, good luck with those twisty mountain roads, sounds like you're going to have a lot of fun.

Exactly my thoughts. There are no actual wipers, so they won't help much anyway. The worst part about them is that the button to activate them is located very close to where your elbow goes... so it happens that you actually press them, and if you're standing still, you get a nice little spray all the way up to the drivers cabin...
It's not a big deal however. And yes, lots of fun ahead! *fingers crossed*

The washers are there primarily to melt snow/ice, I believe. If they intended for it to be more of a washer function, I'm sure they would have fitted wipers as well. Some other guy that posts here retrofitted either 3 or 5 Series washers onto the S, and it looked much cleaner and you could barely see them. It got rid of the whole black plastic chunk and just left two tiny nozzles.
Anywho, congrats! MCB.
edit: I thought all Euro S2Ks had clear side markers?
