New 05 berlina black...thump/knocking noise found!
Just bought a 05 black s2000 last thursday. Man this car is awesome! I just graduated college in December and the whole semster I was debating what car I was going to get after I graduated. My choices where s2000, 350z, sti, rsx, or a land rover discovery. Then I decided I'm going to get an s2000 for sure. Never even drove one but have read many many reviews on this legendary car and the looks won me over. So being the picky person I am I decide a black 04-05 s2000, it had to be that year. Because I wanted an ap2 with the seats with the cutout hole. IMO they look way cooler than the 06+. After waiting patiently for a couple months for the right car to come I finally found a black s2000 with 30k miles. I test drove it with the top down and I felt like I was the coolest person in the world! It reminded me of my 97 integra I had in high school because of the loud engine and the handling but 100 times better!
So after having it week, I noticed a rough idle compared to my 97 eclipse with 165000 miles. So I searched the forums and found that's normal with the s2ks. Ok I can live with that. Then I noticed a thump/knocking noise comming from the trunk. It sounded like it was comming from the glove box, so I took everything out and the sound was still there. Searched the forums again and found it could be the spare tire. So I checked the spare and it was secure and my trunk was completely empty, but the noise was still there! This was driving me crazy!!! Everytime I drove the car I heard the noise and was thinking where the hell is it comming from! So i was getting ready to post a thread on this site to get some help and read the faq before and found the secret compartment. Ran to my car and hoped, please I hope something is in there. Opened the compartment reached my hand in there and YESSS!!! I found the noise! Don't know what it was exactly but it seems like a holder you stick on your window that has a clip for a cell phone or whatever. Now I can cruise in peace!
Just wanted to share my experience with you guys. One quick question to all the s2k owners. When you turn off your engine is there a noticeably shake from the rough idle? when you buy hardtops do they come factory painted? anyone looking to sell a black ht? thanks.

Good luck with your s2k...and yes the hardtop comes factory painted, however, you can buy any hardtop and have a shop paint it to match your car.... Check the 'For Sale' forums on s2ki and you will find a lot of hardtops for sale. Or try hardtopguy.com (he is a site supporter) and has great deals on new tops. He'll even install for you if you're nice
I love my hardtop...worth every penny in the winter.
